As salemen, you should probably try to idk sale something. Not sit behind the counter or just stocking all day when there are possible customers in your department that with a bit of discussion you can probably get them to buy things they didnt even come in to get.

If a person is not working off of commision, I don't really consider them a salesman. How good would you expect your service in a restaurant if your waiter worked off a shitty salary rather than the opportunity for a nice tip from you? I don't blame them for being apathetic towards their jobs. I would be too in their position.

You still get poor service and im sure you still get evil looks from them when you give them a bad tips for bad service.

But the thing is, A lot of people don't want to be bothered by sales staff. For them, good service is being able to go in and get what they want without being bothered by the help.

What service do you expect, do you ever walk into a games store not knowing what you're going to buy and wanting to strike up a conversation with the sales clerk?

now WalMart makes our quarterly bonus based on our profits for the quarter so really if we want a bonus of over $30 so there should be a bit of motivation in store to get a $300+ bonus.

A single associate is not going to equate that with doing good sales work, since they need to rely on the collective group to get a good bonus. When they see others slacking off, it's defeating to actually give a shit and try in that environment, knowing they could give 110% and still end up with a $30 bonus for three months.

very true, but the single associate is the one who might be able to spark something to get people off their arses. Its kind of the jealous factor. If one worker makes it so that you look like a lazy ars compared to him you will want to work harder.

well, if they were so motivated (or compentent) they probably wouldn't be working at Wal-mart.  those few motivated (or competent) employees probably got promoted or moved on to greener pastures.

the Wii is an epidemic.

wow, sucks not to live in Australia.

We may pay more for our games, but our customer service is tip-top. If you go in to any gaming store (EB games, Game or whatever) they only employ people that love gaming. I've often decided on which game to buy based on the recommendation by the staff. What's more, they recommend based on their taste as a gamer, not what will ring the most profit to their store, I've often asked which is better out of game A or B, and been told to buy game B, even though that store doesn't stock it

To walk into a store not knowing what to buy means you should have only walked into the store to browse not to buy. There is no reason in the world to buy something that you didn't know about unless you are too lazy to look it up on the internet to see if you would enjoy the game. No one has recommended a game for me and no one will. So go on and talk to the "sales associate" if you want to just means you didn't do your homework. There is no reason for these people in the gaming section only to check and see if the game is in stock in the back.

I only walk into a video game store not knowing what to buy if I am looking for a deal on an used game.
