Forums - Sony - L4D not coming to the PS3?

Valve is very clear that they only like PC and 360 development. That doesn't stop EA from porting it to another platform, but I would assume this is a Valve IP so they have final say. Given the Orange Box fiasco Valve might be thinking that this is not a good idea.

Valve has sent mixed messages regarding this title being developed for the PS3. Obviously, the only confirmed port is for the 360. I think that Valve would want to be involved with any additional ports to avoid an Orange Box fiasco. Since they won't be releasing a PS3 version before Christmas, it makes sense that they would deny a PS3 version all together.

Companies like to pretend other versions aren't going to be made to get "fanboys" to create threads about how great the game will be on their system (not this thread). See Bioshock for a great example of building hype through an "exclusivity" marketing campaign.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Also, ports a year later on other consoles are not showing good sales.  (Unreal Tournament III, BioShock, Eternal Sonata, etc.)

I wouldn't hold my breath for this one to port to PS3.

UT3 and Eternal Sonata didn't do well on their original consoles, I'm not sure the logic behind porting bombs to other platforms.  A majority of the PS3 sales for Bioshock went to the PC due to the timed exclusivity.  As with other good games on the 360, PS3 users will probably buy Left 4 Dead on the pc.  The only reason to release the game a year later on the PS3 would be to establish the franchise on the PS3 for any sequels, similar to why Bioshock was released on the PS3.

The PS3's userbase is at a size where a game like Left 4 Dead could easily sell a million copies.  That's a lot of revenue to walk away from for the cost of porting it to the PS3 from PC.

I have no interest in that game, so it could not be released on anything and not effect me.

I think there is a chance it will get ported by no time soon. You want to play it PC and 360 is your best option. I think as PS3 user base grows valve is coming around to the afct you cant ignore the PS3 though

Valve can easily ignore the PS3, because they do...
Thing is that 360 sells sh*tloads of software and with the PC enough for Valve to not be hassling with PS3 ports.

Trying not to make more money because you already have lot's of it would be justifiable for an individual who didn't want to work more than they he or she felt he could within reason. But businesses are usualy intent on maximising their profitability , saying business A makes shitload on one platform so there is no need to make money on another platform simply doesn't make sense. The PS3 is only around 5 Million behind in userbase and it's consistently proven that it's able to sell software in large quantities.

Why was this ever even up for discussion? When a 360 game is "exclusive" it continues to be said to be exclusive by all those who are apart of it. The same cannot be said for sony, for when we have a game exclusively all of a sudden every 360 owner from beyond the grave suddenly holds some kind of claim over it. This is because MS buys their exclusivity so it is much more concrete, at least for a time. I am betting it is timed exclusive and EA will do a port. EA is all about Sony these days you know.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

PS3 gets an exclusive who cares ,but if 360 pc get one because MS considers pc's with live and windows thier platform too. MS probably Makes more off a PC sale then they do off of 360's OEM windows pre install.

Still valve likes the pc platform the cell is a huge step away from that for developers and the 3 core cpu in the 360 is using the same architecture environment as the PC.

??? when other valve games got put on consoles where any of them ported by a publisher??

Why are games that come on out on PC as well as the 360 considered exclusive to the 360? Doesn't exclusive mean you can ONLY play it on the specified system? I find it very misleading, I wish console games were made for consoles, and computer games were made for computers :(
