Subject: Victory Draws Near, Troops!

As you can see, troops, I have taken some names and kicked some ass over on the front-line! The Microsoft Empire and the Sony Theocracy have retreated to the rehashed core titles market in the north-west, leaving the entire core frontier undefended to the east. We are advancing rapidly towards their flagship titles and soon their entire market share will be ours.

1. Our bases are completely safe

Neither Microsoft or Sony are even challenging our domination of the casual audience! The casual market has high margins and games sell far more than they do in the north, but still they ceded the ground. Our Wii series titles stand surrounded by DS ones, but the nearest Sony base is half the market away! It's left us a revenue base to attack them with; they will pay in the end.

2. Their core is under threat

Sony and Microsoft, as you can see, are fighting over a tiny piece of territory which is inhabited only by a fickle core audience which demand sequels and rehashes. Not only has this left the entire innovation segment open to attack; it has drained their resources fighting one another. A few more games captured to the north of Mario Kart and even this audience could be ours.

3. They've left the east undefended

Aside from LittleBigPlanet, neither of our competitors have made innovative games that appeal to both the core and casual gamers. They're recycling GH, CoD and GTA games to meet this, but I think this is thier weakness. When our second generation of core games strikes in 2009, they won't be able to stop us taking the entire east. Our Nintendo Faithful, new expanded audience and even the core crowd will all want our games and our hardware.

4. The Wii will follow the DS to a complete rout of Sony and Microsoft

The real success of our DS war machine was, after the 1st Party titles were gone, 3rd party titles that appealed to the core and casuals appeared. This allowed us to attack (Sony especially) from behind: we were taking some of the hardcore market from them too and fighting south! The Wii is expected to do this soon too, and their 'safe' market area will be in ruins.

Our vision and foresight has got us this far; the Wii and DS will be propelled to complete victory this generation only if we keep this up. Do not be concerned that the Xbox 360 software outsells us sometimes; it won't mean anything in a year or two's time.

Good Luck!

Reggie

I find this moderately amusing.

It is a shame you didn't use Red Ocean or Blue Ocean though.

It's just the top 30 for this week. I think this illustrates the point enough: Sony and MS are fightingover a very small (though lucrative) area of the market while Nintendo isn't threatened at all and is advancing into the 'core' part.LittleBigPlanet is the oulier game here, but I don't see 10 more games behind it to secure that marketshare.

Gears 2 would end up in the middle of that big cluster, so it wouldn't add anything to that.

LOL

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

Pretty good battle map. Should do one for each week or each month. I like it. Maybe you can add arrows like on the Dads Army opening.

Good to see this site is still going

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?
