Forums - Gaming - What 2008 console game has the best storyline?

MGS4. Why are you excluding it? If it gets the most votes then it obviously has the best storyline.

They probably don't want posters here that say "MGS4's story is  a poorly written mess and various WRPG stories are way better".

First off I don't think Bioshock should be on that list because the game released in 2007. I know the PS3 version just came out, but the story isn't any newer, and that's what this thread is about.

Personally I have to go with Braid as well, but I realize that since the story is pretty open to interpretation not everyone will like it. All I know is that Braid got me thinking like no other game (and very few books) ever has. The last level before the epilogue just blew me away.

edit: fixed date

for a JRPG standards for me its gotta be Infinite Undiscovery with its twists and characters (although some really do need more fleshing out) ..

We still not got ToV here in Europe.. >.>

and also starting to get into the Gears 2 story.. its just like a no brainer hollywood action blockbuster but there are certain moments like the *Dom / Maria* scene that I thought was done well... and Tai's farewell scene.. :o

Braid barely has any actual storyline.

Oh, wait...

This confirms it: DTG can't understand a story if it isn't spoon-fed to him through cutscenes.

A storyline is something told through dialogue and in case of visual media, dialogue and scenes in tandem. Braid has very little dialogue (or monologues in this case) to present any sort of narrative.

As far as I can tell, the socalled amazing story of Braid is just basically a backstory of some sort

I vote for wii fit. Main character you, objective to lose weight, twist it's also fun.

No definition of storyline I've seen supports your understanding of the word. It never says anything about needing dialogue.

@Riachu-A story can be told through a backstory. There are plenty of films that rely on this tactic, like Ladder 49.

That was a good movie.  But we actually see the backstory in Ladder 49 while in Braid, you just read the backstory.

It's just a different way to tell the story. It doesn't mean there isn't one. In Braid you read it. In other cases, you watch it. It's all a storyline though.
