Forums - Sales - LittleBigPlanet 2nd week sales are in. What do you think?

In line with expectations. Once EUR numbers are in, it should be around 700-800K "first week" sales. I don't think any logical people, except the most extreme fanboys (which I suppose there are quite a few of), expected it to hit over a million first week. As it has been said a hundred times before, the strength of this game will be the legs, not massive first week numbers.

It's all about the game.

Would have been nice if there were no Week0 sales and the game would've been sold simultaneously across all regions. With 400K sales for Japan and NA that would have been enough to score 3rd worldwide. I have just picked up my copy here in the Netherlands.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Week 0-1 sales are better than I thought, but I thought it would flop. Right now, they are above average for a PS3 AAA title, and I expect legs to be more impressive still.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Little Big Planet, for me, is one of the biggest commercial flop of the year.

I mean, come on, Too Human has got better figures on release. Too Human, a game noboby should have played!!
And now we have LBP, a game everyone should buy (Greatness), a game advertised by Sony as the NEXT BIG THING... and look at the numbers...

Considering the hype, LBP is disappointing. Legs or not.

OMG. Yeah for you every game that has ps3 logo is a flop. You should check vgchartz, for sales, buddy. Not for mindless trolling than you would see that your logic is flawed.

The game is doing realistically well, though i must say some of our fellow VGCers must be a little disappointed deep inside that it didnt sell a gazillion copies week 1. I also wonder if the recalls have had a lasting effect on the whole thing. I expect it to clear the 5 million mark also, as a game of this much quality and promise should.

Maybe, but I myself always figured it would be the legs that were REALLY impressive and Day 1 would not be blockbuster even if the game totally was.  It's like Sony got a Nintendo game.

+1.  That's exactly my position as well.  It actually did better than I expected the first couple weeks.  Usually, new IPs like this sell to people that keep track of gaming news and then sell more with word of mouth / advertising.  If you look at games like Uncharted, Mass Effect, Ratchet & Clank, you can see the sales trend.

Gears of War did 900k first week and 450k second week back in '06 when the 360 was at less than 9 million worldwide.

Gears of War is a different type of game than I listed.  Of course "Big men with big guns" type of games will do better, even as a new IP.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

@FinalEvangelion
Considering that a platformer, and not a shooter, is the best selling game of all times, I dont think the generalized statement that you made even holds true. Lets face it, Gears 1 was a resounding success for a new IP, which LBP may or may not be, depending on the weeks, or months to come. no need to say stuff like it was going to sell anyways.
