Forums - Sony - Insomniac and Naughty Dog

One of Sony's best studios, and Sony's best second party developer. Crash, Spyro, Ratchet, Jak, Resistance, Uncharted.

However, two of those series are practically dead- they've been given to other developers. So I'll cross them out.

Insomniac has been very dutiful in giving us not only a full Ratchet and Clank game, but also a downloadable one, and two games from their new series, Resistance.

Now, look at Naughty Dog. We haven't seen anything from the Jak and Daxter series yet, and only one game from their new franchise, Uncharted.

Both studios, as I mentioned, abandoned a series on the switch to PS2. Insomniac dumped Spyro (it never did that well, though) and Naughty Dog dumped Crash (what was then one of the best series around). They both started anew, Insomniac with the highly acclaimed Ratchet and Clank, Naughty Dog with the almost-as-highly-acclaimed Jak and Daxter.

I'm getting worried here. Are Naughty Dog going to dump Jak like they did Crash, and focus on their new series? I'd hate to see Jak destroyed by another developer like Crash and, to a certain extent, Spyro, were. Will Insomniac follow suit and dump Ratchet? That's a lot less likely, since they've already made an R&C (two I suppose) this gen. But Naughty Dog could well sell the rights to Jak.

I certainly hope not.

Naughty Dog can't sell the rights to Jak & Daxter. That's up to Sony.

Naughty Dog has said they'd like to make a new Jak with the Uncharted engine, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Jak 4 after they release Uncharted 2.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Sony signed a contract with Ready At Dawn to make a new Jak. The team was founded by some ex-Naughty Dog employees, and they were pretty successful with Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP.

look up ur facts be4 u do this
insmoniac has 250ish employies
naughty dog has 45

they were part of universal when they made spyro and crash and when they tried to leave universal kept the ip..

This. Remember, Ready At Dawn (such a cool name IMO) said that they were moving on from handheld games (PSP), which I assume means that they are going to consoles (hopefully PS3).

Oh, right. Whoops, my mistake.
Insomniac has 200 employees?

Damn, I really have to check my facts before making threads like this.

Oh, god. The people who made Daxter?

I suppose that was a good game. Definitely better than that Size Matters game that High Impact made.

I'm pretty sure Naughty Dag have gotten closer to the 100 employee mark. They generally take two years to make a game, like Insomniac, they just don't have two different teams working on two different franchises simultaneously.

They're also home to the Ice Team, Sony's top tech guys that developed things like the PlayStation Edge toolset.
