Exactly the difference between Gears and GTA or Halo for that matter will be the 2 versus 5 days for week one. However it mostly certainly will track probably very close to 5 days of GTA IV I don't really doubt that. Since it is two days perhaps 2.5 million is a more reasonable estimate. Of course, Gears 2 has the luxury of a bigger install base over both those as well. I also believe the sky is the limit for both November and December NPD when it comes to Gears.
If you are correct this is going to be there biggest game yet.
Altough I would go with zen to be honest.
The thing which makes me laugh is you got people saying LittleBigPlanet with all its hype selling 200k in 1 week = huge. If Gears 2 does sell 3.5m in 1 week what would you call that exactly?!
Personally i think that might be a tad too high though as that as mentioned is Halo 3 numbers. Most normal people dont even know this game is out as has been no advertising or anything here. I would say 2m max then will grow as xmas gets closer.

Its already sold 2.1 million on its first day....

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
I live in chicago and I had to travel to 3 different stores before I was able to find it in stock. I went to sears, blockbuster then finally a gamestop. And if you can believe it I got the last copy at gamestop. Oh, and I tried 7-11, but they didn't seem like they knew what GoW2 was, even though they had a sign for it hanging up in their store.
When Halo 3 launched, there were about 12M 360s sold. When GoW2 launched there was 22M
With 10M more consoles, GoW2 could easily beat Halo 3 launch numbers.
Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I thought it was ~2.7m Day-1 in the US alone. It broke every record including the one held by Halo 2 which launched on day-1 with 2.4m http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49161

Yes it does seem we have wrong numbers as 1.8 million was not the day 1 worldwide. Maybe he meant 2.8 million.
I think it'll have very front loaded sales. Basically everyone that wants the game will buy it first few days.
I'm guessing 70% of its life time sales will be the first 5 - 7 days.
