your post failed when you said you dedicated your life to video games and named tons of pre-modern systems (before NES) and then went straight to only sony systems and dreamcast. if you don't at the very least have NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis you've missed out on many of the alltime best games ever. genesis has a few of the best 2D games ever, NES and SNES have MANY of the best games ever, and N64 has several of the best games ever, including several of the best multiplayer games ever. no wonder you don't understand, judging from your post it would appear you have no taste and have missed out on the vast majority of the finest video games ever.
to answer the other half of your question as to why it is selling like crazy, it is because it offers many games that are fun, which attracts gamers and many games that are simple to understand and fun, which attracts non-gamers. it also brings something brand new (motion controls) to the table that makes the games much more interactive than any other system ever made. on top of that for most of this gen its offered all those things at a vastly lower price than the other current gen systems which have been super overpriced. it also offers easily the best downloadable service of any system with the VC which has turbographix-16, neo geo, sega master system, genesis, NES, SNES, and N64. on top of that unlike the other systems it has full 100% backwards compatibility to the last generation. nothing else can even remotely compare to that lineup of past games. that is why its selling like crazy.
it doesn't have the best support for new games so far this gen, which at first glance would make one question why it is the fastest selling videogame system ever. but when you take into account all of the things mentioned above, the answer becomes a lot more obvious.
