Okay, I'm not knocking anyone's opinion here, but I just cannot see how someone who has been a gamer that long could NOT want to experience what Wii has brought to the table.
I mean, sure it doesn't have that many killer Online MP games, and it doesn't use 1080p, but I remember when none of that stuff was necessary for a game to be helaciously awesome, and I find it difficult to believe that someone who started as early as atari would diverge from that opinion.
I like the fresh feel that the Wiimote & Nunchuk have and I like the potential they have even if it is taking some time for companies to capitalize on them fully.

Help me, I'm a vegetarian and I still can't understand the reason why so many people like meat.
Wear gaudy colours or avoid display. It's all the same.
Be warned, I will use walls of polysyllables and complex clauses as a defence against lucid argument.

That was sarcasm used as cover for personal insults, Grey Acumen. I thought you'd recognise that.
And yes that was a disguised jab as well.

If you can't stand the graphics then you are not an old gamer.
You really didn't enjoy pac-man, tetris, super mario bros., Atari, NES games, Genesis, SNES, etc...
I can see the graphics being a problem for new gamers that love FMVs and high computer graphics but I find it weird for an old gamer to state that reason. Also stating watching blu-ray, getting on the internet, hearing MP3s and photos makes your old gamer statement irrelevant. None of those additions were on old consoles and you still enjoyed that console.
Well let's face it, It sells well in part because of limited supply. You see one in stock you're amazed, and it's cheap enough to impulse buy. You get it before someone else does, then consider yourself lucky. Or your kid was very upset last year you couldn't find one, so you see it and grab it before it's gone. I believe It's highly unlikely they would have sold so many if they had more in stock. The low availability also raises consumer satisfaction as those who get it think they have something special.
The other reason is the price of PS3, that factor alone leaves the wii in a class of it's own. If PS3 was $250 right now wii would be in a tough spot. Yea the 360 is $200, but the xbox brand really hasn't established itself to the casual market before- online fees is a major deterrent to casual players.
The name. It's not politically correct to say 'Wii' in public unless you own a Wii.

If PS3 were $250, it would not be the ps3 you know today, because it'd need to hold back on features, bluray discs being the biggest of those
In the same sense i could say "well if wii were the same price, but HD, it would be doing even better".. it is not the case and hence a useless point
