Forums - Gaming - How do you deal with stress when playing video games?

i get so mad when i cant make sht in basketball games :'( but i just shake it off like nothing

I usually get pissed off and don't play the game for a couple days, then i go to a less stressful game like SSBB or Super Mario Galaxy...........or i go old school and break out the the Tapper for the 2600 (which doesn't make much sense becauase that is a very stressful game) or go to my Virtual Boy with some Tennis or Wario World.

Currently Playing: Mass Effect (360)

"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed" - Gandhi

The worst time was when I was playing R6V2... I had 29 straight kills, and right before I shot the guy for kill #30, the battery in my controller died... i chunked the controller against my hardwood floors, and it ricochet up and hit my 360 dead on, knocking it on its side which tore up my disc.

Therefore, I had to go down to GameStop and buy another controller, headset, and a new copy of R6V2. $140.00 bucks flushed away in a micro-second. By the time I got back, I was out of my "groove" per se, and I sucked it up for a couple of games and called it quits for the night.

Honestly, I've broken five 360 controllers and two headsets due to stress.

I have since decided to stop throwing my money down the drain ($360.00 bucks would have bought me 6 more games, but instead I wasted it)

Therefore, if I get so stressed that I become enraged, I turn off the system for about 20 minutes to calm down. Otherwise, my wife grounds me from my toy.

I don't get stressed. I used to... but now I just meditate for a minute holding the controller and thinking on the situation. I figure it out eventually.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

I'll keep retrying but if nothings working I'll get pissed off and stop playing for a little bit. I'll go outside and take shots from my dad/friends/whoever or practice stick handling and playing the puck (goalie).

I conceded 3 years ago in the fact that i'm getting suckier at games... I'm just not as good now (25) then I was at 16... No stress anymore... and the fact that there are more important things in life when your 25 then videogames.. Like paying the rent.. so I don't stress out about videogames anymore..

Actually, I think I have gotten better with age.  Then again, I was a hardcore gamer starting with Utopia on the Mattel Intellivision back in 1982...

I think that since I have aged at the same rate as the video game industry... (it was born at the same time I was) I have literally "grown up" with it.  I would take on a 16 year old version of myself any day of the week, and whip myself silly.

Hmm, then again, no matter which version of myself won, I'd technically still be whipping myself... okay then, just forget I said anything at all.

Comrade Tovya... you played utopia too? I thought we (Me and my childhood friend) where the only ones!

As far as getting better or worse over the years. I think the big problem now is there are TOO many games. When I was young, I usually had just one game to play (that i had not yet beat). So no matter how hard and frustrating it was, I just played it over, and over, and over. Until the job was done. Metroid was a good example of this.

But now, before I even have a chance to finish a game, 5 new games are out. (In the last few weeks, fall out 3, resistance 2, little big planet and otterspod)... now, little big planet and otterspod are almost done, but i'm dying to play fall out 3 and resistance 2 also...

Oh yeah, I LOVED Utopia... and really to this day it's still a pretty amazing game considering the hardware it was working with.  Funny enough, I still have the original copy of the game I got for Christmas in 1982... and it still works like a charm.

I actually had a lot of games (even though we were dirt poor)... I used to peddel candy at school in competition with the school fund raiser candy.  I would buy 1000-count bags of pixie sticks at around a penny per stick, and turn around and sell them 5 for a dollar to kids... and of course, most parents won't let their kids take candy to school, and kids are addicted to candy, so I made a killing everyday on my classmates.  A $10.00 investment would yield me $200.00 every two weeks or so.

Long story short, I was a first grader making $400.00 a month to spend on video games and what not... that's a lot of cash for any kid.. but back in the early 80s, I was the rich kid at school who lived in poverty at home.

Anyway, therefore, I got lots and lots of games, and I've kept nearly every single on of them to this day (along with the consoles).
