Forums - Sales Discussion - First day sales in Japan (7/26)

I think Shams is impressed because Gundam for Wii is an FPS. I am glad Oblivion is doing well. Dewy bombed, hopefully the US sales will make up for the apparent dismal Japanese sales. At least the Elebits/Dewy team is making new IPs for Wii. So I hope sales in the west are high enough to keep their new IPs coming.

IMO, the Gundam game should of done a bit better considering the userbase, but we'll have to see how its legs do - Gundam on PS3 (not Mousou) managed ~100k on so few consoles.

Yeah - but that was effectively a "launch" title - the first "next-gen" Gundam.

Not sure what the redeeming features of this game are - looks like a PS2 title with some Wiimote controls. Graphics looked pretty weak to me. I think 60k might flatter the game.

just to know your opinion...how many PS3 should be sold this week in order to consider HSG5 a system seller?

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

44.2 M 27.1 M 20.8 M

Yea the japanese didn't have many other choices at launch for the PS3, even resistance sold over 130k, which is strange. Besides ridge racer there wasn't much so people just bought anything I think.

I don't know why they decided to release dewy and guilty gear on a week like this. HGS and mario party and oblivion are taking all the sales on the 3 platforms.

About the Dewy, it is said as justified grievance for Konami. Because Elebits was said "it is nice game", Some users have strong expectations for Dewy... But Konami's choice broke them...

On the other hand, about guilty gear, it is simply divine justice. PS2 version was too buggy, so it bacame callback. After doing such a critical trouble, it isn't surprising it becomes few sales.

Hey, y-koron, your from Japan, right?

Can you give any initial impressions the Japanese have about Oblivion? The reason I ask is because over in the US, our impression is that the Japanese really could care less about our games (GTA, Oblivion, ect), whereas we love Japanese games just like our own (even though DQ does poorly for some insane reason).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

ok so you're saying that Dewy is a much worse game than elebits or that it was just released on the wrong week?

Whoa, wait, there's a Taiko Drum Master out on the DS? Damn, I gotta import that.

Yes, I'm Japanese.

Users of Oblivion are enjoying it, however there are some slight dissatisfactions like that it is hard to see Japanese captions and can't use MOD. The supports of Spike (distributor of Japanese Edition) are also well.

So If it goes well, it becomes good community that is small but exciting.

360 - Glad to see Oblivion is actually GETTING CREDIT from Japanes gamers.

PS3 - Great software sales, There were similar reports about the hardware when gundam was released, yet Ps3 made 40k in that week (I think) - so maybe 30k isn't out of reach.

Wii - Great as always
