Hi all. So what do you think? Will the Wii beat PS2 in Japan in lifetime sales? Right now the Wii is at about million less than what the PS2 was in the same amount of weeks. The link to the graph is below.

EDIT: I created this thread about three or four months back, and people suggested since the PS2 and WII's launch dates were different by a few months we would be better able to tell in February or March (of 09). Well what does everyone think now? Have attitudes changed? Right now the Wii is at about 7,898,477 and the PS2 is at about 9,211,275 at the same point in its life span. The answer is NO. Wii is way down year over year, and literally the only Wii game on Japanese preorder charts is Animal Crossing.

They need to put more emphasis on their Wii development, Wii Music is an embarrassment to their Wii-line (sales-wise).

Now is not the best time to compare given that at this point in the graph the PS2 just finished a holiday and the Wii has one on the way; in Febuary we will have a much clearer picture of how the two compare.

yeah i think i can agree as of right now it is not looking like the wii will overtake the PS2. However, if they develop more games tailored to the Japanese market I think wii will have a better chance.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
