Forums - Gaming - Spending so much time on gaming sites and not appreciating games as much?

I find myself in this situation, I do not know if it just me and I am curious to know if anyone else finds this happening to them.

Before I found my first gaming site, qj.net I would only know what I read in my gameinformer subscription, reading just a small portion of a game preview left me more than enough excitement for the newest RPG's coming around the corner (my favorite area of a magazine). Now though I read about a game all the time, sometimes I see posts about them everyday, all over the net and by the time the game comes out I seem to not appreciate them as much because I pretty much know everything about them.

This only started happening this gen too, even with the PS2 I would just walk into a game shop see an RPG and think "Wow, I must play this game". I would read no reviews or user opinions and honestly I found that I actually enjoyed games so much more. I would play games 2-3-4 sometimes 5+ times before I grew tired of them. These days if I buy a game I am lucky if I finish it, it is not because I do not have the time, I just seem to lose interest so quickly because I always know about the next game right around the corner and I just divert all my attention elsewhere.

Those 2 things are just killing it for me recently. Knowing about it before playing and knowing what is right around the corner.

My latest casualty is Fable II. I read almost nothing on the original, I picked it up because I neglected it for so long and just feel in love with it This time around, I read so many reviews, reviews, user input, etc... that I pretty much knew what to expect before I started playing and honestly nothing has suprised me in the least with the game. It is so sad honestly because I know if it had the same fate as the original with me I would have fell in love with it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I think I need to just stop reading all this bogus crap about games and start picking them up on impulse, I always seemed to get lucky that way and enjoyed them so much more when I did not know a damn thing to expect before I started playing.

yep, it happened to me also, but when little big planet came out, i was busy making levels to check different games.

^ You see, it was the same for me.

I really did not know enough about LBP where I knew exactly what to expect so my time has been going there right now.

It's like spoilers sort of, The little things in games that surprise you and make you smile are less frequent nowadays. P.S Your a Noob

Access to information is so easy nowadays... Yep, same situation here. I just can't stop coming here at VGChartz and all! I currently have a full week off college, and I wanted to complete at least 6 games that I've been playing for the past few weeks (some, months even!):

-Tales of Vesperia (damn this game is long!);
-Fable II (not really into it yet);
-Fallout 3 (I did finish it, epic if you ask me);
-Far Cry 2 (...I'm not sure if I will complete it);
-Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (I'm at Mission 5 in the Allies campaign, getting to it)
-007: Quantum of Solace (I did finish it as well, and I think the single player is as good as Nightfire's).

2 games out of 6 completed... Already wednesday, and Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 are almost out! I also didn't even start Infinite Undiscovery! @_@

I'm starting to hate publishers for releasing their games during the Holiday season. I know it's part of making cash, but they seriously got to spread it more evenly from now on! 2 awesome Holidays in a row with awesome games (2006, 2007, and now this year).

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

^ Yeah I am sick of all these games coming out at the same damn time.

Just release them all year round. Look at MGS4 sales, it released in June.

I really do not need 10+ games in a 2 month span. So many games just become forgotten real fast.

@Blazin

Me? A noob?

Want me to slap your ass off the elevator again? Maybe give you some more tips on how to mind your surroundings so you do not get your ass smacked into a fire pit like the nooblet (You like that word huh?) you are.

This is why i never try games, never rent games and try to read only one or two reviews/previews before buying. It ruins some of the magic if you've already seen half of the game on gametrailers et al.

^Well, I don't even watch any videos for up and coming games. It just seems the previews do a good job on their own nowadays to spoil the fun. "In this new installment you now have this, this, that, those with a mix of them. Add in fact that later in the game you get to explore this place and that place."

This is what ruins it all, specially with RPG's or Adventure games. Majority of which I play.

I remember knowing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Xenogears the first time I picked it up and was blown away by almost everything in the game. I never read previews, user reviews, etc... and picked up SaGa Frontier because I enjoyed the battle system. Nowadays user reviews, previews and such would tell you to stay away from it because it is the next best thing next to a waste basket.
