Forums - Nintendo - Will wii still be "supported" by third parties once the ps2 is dead?

Considering how the number of Wii-exclusives is increasing, and how small and mid-sized publishers in particular are having a tough time on the HD systems...I'd say the Wii would be just fine.

Look at it this way: if the companies that are still making PS2 games thought it'd be possible/profitable to make HD games, why aren't they doing so?

i don't see the wii being impacted by the death of the ps2. there's just too many consoles out there to be ignored.

By the time PS2 is dead, it will be like what, 2010-2011? :P

Just in time for Wii HD?

Most likely... If PS2 manage to sell until 2012.

PS2 support is already being dropped, even when there's a Wii version in some cases.

On one hand no PS2 could mean 3rd parties will built to Wii specs not PS2 but more likely larger devs will continue to put their 2nd & 3rd teams on Wii and keep the 1st teams (the best ones) on HD. So Wii games will continue to be subpar from them.

Smaller devs will continue to focus on Wii only and they quality of their games will rise.

I often read on this site that wii multiplat games aren't good because they're port of the ps2 version. But let's imagine that the ps2 stops selling tomorrow, do you think that third parties will develop a specific version of their game for the wii or will they just stay on ps360? My guess is that they're gonna skip the wii to focus on hd system. Indeed, I dunno if it worth it to develop a new engine for the wii when the third parties software sales are pretty bad (last one = quantum of solace). Of course, big games like fifa, pes, madden will always have a wii version, but what for the others?

uh, the console with the highest sales has to worry about losing 3rd party support?

Wait, why? what?

No, when the PS2 dies, there will be just as many games for the Wii, possibly more because there are still some PS2 exclusives (in japan mostly) and because devs have 1 less version to make, so games take less time

I think the Wii will be fine. @ Gamerace I think your right for the most part as thus Wii will start to get some Gems... which is always good... but on occasions I think big devs. will let their 1st teams do some work on the Wii. It'll be once in awhile thing though.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

Personally, I thought the Wii would already be getting most of the third party love at this point. If you call what they are getting now "support", then I think a console made by me would get this much of it.

Much of the industry is set in their ways and would rather stick to doing what they know despite shrinking profits and needing to lay-off (it seems) rather than trying to understand the Wii marketplace.

On the flip side, aside from Nintendo no one has had a massive hit on Wii either (Mario & Sonic excluded since it's still Mario) and even Nintendo is struggling with Mario Sluggers, Warioland and now Wii Music all performing softly saleswise.   So it's hard to blame them.

Okay I know there's lots of 1m plus titles, don't flame me - I said massive hit - like Halo/CoD4/GoW/GTAIV etc.

Wii support would grow if the PS2 died today.

No more cheap PS2/Wii ports of games would improve the overall quality of Wii games.

No. Wii will be fine, if not BETTER!
