Forums - Sony - MGS4 : the same old crappy gameplay with better visuals ?

thanks, lol.

You just reminded me that I have a copy of the first Splinter Cell that was included with my sound card I bought for my PC last month. I gotta play it now, though I'm still a big fan of MGS.

How can anyone respect someone's opinion who passes judgment on a game they not only never played but one that won't be released for another year? What's really funny is that in his profile he has the MGS series listed under "must play", I guess they'll let anyone write for a gaming website these days.

QFT, (Quite Fu**ing True) Usually I hate QFT because it´s already there, no point to quote, but this time  I thought it would be ok since this is 100% what I was going to say and its good to have you back Legend so I don´t have to say as much (ya old drama-queen....JK).

Side note: I highly doubt it can take on Metroid Prime. The metroid series has done, at most, 2.5M WW, with the first game.

WOW your being a troll arent you....Metal Gear Solid in my history has sold way better here in America and Japan...Metriod series doesn't do nothing in Japan but collect dust...Metal Gear Solid always hits a million in both of those regions...so your quite wrong on this statement...and MGS4 will sell a whopping 2 million in America and 1 million in Japan....

Always? You're smoking, right?Metal Gear sells more than Metroid in Japan (though it really depends, 2D Metroid sells more than Prime over there) but US Prime sales are through the roof and can equal combined US/JP MGS sales.

Wrong.

Metroid Prime- 120,000 in Japan + 1,920,000 in the US + 730,000 in others = 2,770,000 total worldwide
Metroid Prime 2- 70,000 in Japan + 820,000 in the US + 370,000 in others = 1,260,000 total worldwide

Metal Gear Solid- 780,000 in Japan + 2,810,000 in the US + 2,000,000 in others = 5,590,000 in total
Metal Gear Solid 2- 850,000 in Japan + 2,290,000 in the US + 2,420,000 in others = 5,560,000 in total
Metal Gear Solid 3- 860,000 in Japan + 1,420,000 in the US + 1,680,000 in others = 3,960,000 in total

MGS outsells MP in every region. In fact the lowest selling MGS game sells almost equal to both MP games worldwide combined. US sales for Metroid Prime are good but not through the roof in comparison to other games, including MGS.

Even if you add the old Metroid games, that were more popular in Japan as you pointed out, MGS is still a bigger series. MP is the best seslling Metroid game ever even though it did poorly in Japan.

I said can and not always. Prime sales in the US are greater than MGS3 US sales, so no, Metal Gear doesn't always outsell Metroid in all regions.

I expect MP3 to overtake MGS4 just from install base alone. That, and MGS sales suddenly creeping downward, while Wii is a force with MP3 kicking off the first of the Big 3's releases. As far as I know, MGS4 has no momentum to ride off of except for its own hype...whenever it gets released.

lol, watch it. You may not like it that much, but other people have totally different opinions. You might as well say that Halo 3 will bomb.

Watch what? When did I say that I didn't like it? All I said was that the only thing contributing to any MGS4 momentum would be its own hype. That's not an attack.
And Halo has too many fanboys to bomb.

In that case, I can heartily recommend Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Its stealth is awesome (IMO much better than in MGS2), its loaded with funky gadgets, and has a fantastically fun coop mode and a multiplayer component where you are either a mercenary or spy (each with their own unique attributes and gadgets).

What's great about the game is you can use all sorts of techniques to pass each mission: Kill, immobilize or simply not being seen. There are in fact only three people you are required to kill in the entire game, and you actually get points knocked off for killing people unneccessarily (you start each mission with 100% completion rate - that percentage is knocked off for being detected or for killing the enemy). The replay value is tremendous.

You can get the game for the Xbox or for the PC.

I will definitely pick up a copy of BG&E - I've heard several things about the game, all good comments so far!

Ummmm, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the MGS series feature all of those features (except the multiplayer, which it will have and has been done on the portable versions). You can go through MGS2 I know for a fact using just your tranq gun and your blunt sword so that you don't kill anyone, and are rewarded for doing so. Splinter Cell has a lot to offer don't get me wrong, I particularly like how it does darkness, but the MGS series has done a lot of these things, including all the funky gadgets.

I don't know - I played MGS2 and got stuck somewhere in level 3 (I think) and gave up on the game. I do plan to revisit the game sometime soon. MGS wasn't a bad game by any means, but that level killed it for me.

What you say may very well be true, but from my recollection I remember the way the games control are different. I feel that the online component in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a blast to play, with coop more fun than deathmatch. Unfortunately my PS2 version of MGS2 doesn't have online (not that I'm aware of) and coop was one of the most compelling features of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

I guess we're comparing very similar games, of which neither is really better than the other - just what feels "right" to the player, or what you get used to. Kind of like comparing Street Fighter to King of Fighters. Some swear by one, some by the other. Nobody is right or wrong.
