Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo president hates price drops for consumers’ sakes

I agree with Iwata, bandwagon jumpers shouldn't pay less for the system, especially because the value of a videogame console actually goes up during its lifecycle due to more available compelling software.

@theRepublic: I think that comment you quoted was refering to moneyhatting third party games.

I'm nearly tempted to give up nearly mind.

how is this annoying when you already have a wii?

whats he's basically said is 'in my honest opinion , when the price of a console keeps dropping comsumers keep waiting for the price to go down even further. I dont think this is a good idea'

im not trying to be fanboyish but that doesnt sound cocky to me. it would be cocky if he said 'unlike our competitiors were doing so good we dont need to cut our price. people obviouusly see the value in the wii as being worth its price therefore we win'

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

proud soldier of nintopia

Wow who put your panties in a wad haha. Personally Iwata speaks quite congenial. Buying something early only to have it a year or so later the same product cheaper is a slap in the face to your early adopters, which are usually your core base. Especially when it's done less than a year after.

Despite wishful thinking for that of Iwata, hardware eventually drop in price and Ninty has always done the same. But you drop price based on supply and demand as someone has stated before hand. If you can sell a product at a certain price then you keep that price until demand goes down. Now maybe you life in fairy land where the companies all love their consumers and will gladly sell them consoles at a lower price so that everyone has huge smiles but that's just it... its a fairy land so grow up.

Maybe if he put some of that money he is saving into getting some games for the wii I could take this guy seriously.

As has been said many, many times before, Nintendo has produced sequels to their biggest franchises faster than ever before.  Nintendo is doing great in the games department.  Third parties are the ones who need to catch up.  It looks to me like that will be happening very soon.

At the rate that the Wii is selling right now, it would be just plain dumb for Nintendo to drop the price on the Wii.  It's called supply and demand.  Demand is still very high at this price point, so it should stay at this price point.

Please don't defend cockiness because that's all this statement is imo.

We all know how well the wii is doing but that isn't the point.

Gamers deserve better than this and with his attitude it would seem sales are all that matter and f**k everything else.

Are you defending that position.

It is not your God given right to pay less for a product.  Nintendo will charge what the market will bear.  This is business.  Nintendo does not owe anything to its consumers other than more great games.

I agree entirely with Iwata.
Next gen, if I'm interested in buying the Nintendo console, I won't fear a price drop (even if it may still come) and will gladly buy the console.
But the next MS or Sony console? No way I'm buying them before they're 2 years old.
Getting the worst SKU for the highest price just isn't a smart thing to do, at least that's what I think.
I don't even need to go to the quality question: Nintendo owns all their competitors hands down, and always have.

I just never had any problem with their product. I just can't say the same for both Sony and MS.

Nintendo made all they needed to do to keep me as a customer since years, and I'm not even a fan of their franchises!

Cockiness... you want to see real arrogance try talkign to me everynow and then instead of one of the least cocky people in the world.

And sales ARE all that matter.  You really think any company out there gives a shit about whether people are happy.  Well I'm sure the game developers do... which would include Iwata by the way... but their job is to SELL entertainment.  And the only reason you get quality games is because competition.  And it's usually these guys, Nintendo, who push that competition so that you do get your good games.

So don't pull this childish bullshit out because I will not stand for fiery ignorance.  Stick with just ignorance next time because then it's just cute... but here it's just an annoying pain in the ass when you act like you know what you are saying.  Welcom to capitalism.

Apple customer that bought the IPhone the month it came out were throwing a tantrum when Apple dropped its price a few months later...
Can't have it both ways, complain when the price drops and complain when it doesn't....

Personally I like the way Sony has been doing it, price has dropped but so have features so those that bought a PS3 the first months still can't feel slighted ( full BC)....

PS : There isn't a single CEO in any business industry that likes having to drop price of its products so that's hardly surprising..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

No slow Wii sales=>No price cut=So simple...

wow talk about biased from OP. First i agree with the nintendo president. Sure everyone loves to see a price drop, cause that means you can get the system for cheaper. But I am really turned off by the 360 and PS3. not so much becuase of their price, but because of their inconsistent price and models. It seems like 2 new models and or price come out every year.

Thats never fun to buy into, feels like I'm buying a computer and as soon as I buy one a new better one comes out, and mine is outdated and not top notch. I like how there is only 1 Wii, the price hasn't changed (this just nice cause I bought at 250 and still 250 so i don't geel like waiting paid off or anything).

And man do I hate people bitching about games on teh Wii, adn Nintendo. Its not their fault. We have Zelda, Mario, Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Metroid, Smash, Fire Emblem, and I think i have more nintendo games but lazy to look at em so just off head. They are pumping out their games huge, not to mention sport, fit, and music. Soon animal crossing. Lets look at Playstation, we haven't gottent he GT yet, or God of War. Not too keen on all the first party's they have cause a lot of their first parties aren't my style of game, but how come you don't bitch at Sony or Microsoft for lack of first party games out. Because they have great 3rd parties out.

Gamers deserve better? LOL What are you smoking, dude? That's one of the most conceited, yet hilarious things I've ever read. Thanks for the laugh. =)

I actually agree with Iwata. I hate buying new products knowing that the price will be a lot less in a few months. It makes me feel ripped off when I buy a product, and 2 months later they drop the price a lot.

Also, you feel infuriated because Iwata has an opinion that's different from yours? Hahahaha

I'm infuriated that Sony wanted to put out a $600 dollar system! I hope they burn in hell, and god help us if they ever win any console generation again!!!!!!
