Next to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Insomniac's massively anticipated sequel is probably the biggest PlayStation 3 title of 2008, although we're sure the LittleBigPlanet fans may have something to say about that.

We are set to start working on Resistance 2 as both Arnold and I will soon provide you with two separate reviews for this blockbuster, but in the meantime, we're sure you're interested in what others are saying. Thing is, when it comes to analyzing a next-gen FPS, the critics tend to differ on what makes for an elite title; some put more emphasis on technicals, others want to focus on intensely robust online gameplay. But in the case of a sequel, you can bet that many reviewers are going to be on the lookout for the improvements and enhancements; in other words, is the sequel better than the original? This is a logical approach, of course, but we're here to warn you about the reviews that continue to harp on words like "innovation." These days, it seems that unless every single major release "innovates" in some way; unless it presents gamers with something entirely fresh and new, the game is automatically less than excellent. This is an absurd theory in our eyes, and in the end, we believe a review should more about inherent quality and fun factor.

Thus far, we've seen the low end of reviews from places like GameDaily and Game Informer (8.0 and 8.5 respectively) and the high end from IGN (9.5), Official PlayStation Magazine (9.0), Cheat Code Central (9.6), and Gamer.Blorge (A+,A+). As far as we can tell, though, the central message is pretty simple: Resistance 2 is intense, entertaining, and most worthy of a purchase. Just watch out for reviewers who tend to focus on aspects that simply don't matter much in the larger scheme of things, especially when it comes to the typical consumer.

Wow, this is one of the first "damage control" news articles I've ever seen. "Don't listen to the low reviewers, they just focused on the wrong thing." WTF.

This was supposed to be the best game ever. Now it's just "worthy of a purchase?"

For someone who loves to call others fanboys you just acted like the biggest one.

The reviewers giving the game bad scores are full of BULLSHIT and you know it Zen! They keep harping on how the game has 2weapon limit like ALL THE REST OF THE SHOOTERS OUT THERE NOW! yet now that R2 has it, it is no longer a good viable method. BULLSHIT! Tell me one good reason that this game should not be getting purely 9+ reviews other then the fact that it is GoW2's rival?

A game isn't based on bullet points. It's based on fun and immersion. It's not BS when a game scores low with a number of reviewers. The game is not "fanboy reviewed" and such an assertion is damage control of the highest caliber.

The thing is, I'm not even trying to flame R2. I think the game is gonna be great. I just think it's foolish to believe that all the "just good" reviewers must come from fanboys. It's silly and untrue.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

And to be completely honest with you all, I really hope R2 ends up with at least a 9/10, just so I don't have to keep refuting this "reviewers are secret 360 fanboys and gave bad reviews on purpose" nonsense.

1. trying to create a false sense of high expectations by saying "it was meant to be the best game ever" & then coming to a conclusion saying "but its turned out to be a great game" IS flaming.

2. well don't you also believe all the "good reviews" (IGN especially) came out of "fear" of fanboy attacks....??

No, I told the truth. Just because it's something you don't wanna hear doesn't mean that I've manufactured it.

Also, I don't call people fanboys. I call them fans, and I respect fans, I just believe their opinions are biased.

You, however, did call me a fanboy. I would say that I acted more like a foeboy than a fanboy, except I stuck to the information I was given and its obvious implications.

Now, you might also believe I was trolling, but I wasn't. As you can see, the article is very pro-Sony, and I simply gave a differing opinion.

You've made it your mission to attack me today. Let's keep them to a minimum from here on out, if you can.

tell me if REsistance 2 hype never crossed MGS4, Halo 3, GTa 4, FF13 & even LBP

how the hell was it meant to be "the best game ever?"

how do you come to such a dreadful conclusion?
