Forums - Nintendo - Japan using the DS to teach in schools!

It's from a site I've never heard of that I came across while searching for news, I thought it was pretty interesting :)

 http://www.howestreet.com/articles/index.php?article_id=4400

"It turns out that even some Japanese teachers have started using Nintendo's DS as an instructive tool. Yes, you read that right, they're using video games to teach!

Get this: The Kyoto school district now uses Nintendo DS machines in its four junior high schools, and it's seen spectacular results. Nearly 80% of its students were able to master an appropriate level of English vocabulary by using the DS, up sharply from just 18% before.

The teachers love the results, and they also love the device's Wi-Fi functionality. Children can electronically transfer their homework, assignments, and tests directly to the teachers. No more paperwork and no more "the-dog-ate-my-homework" excuses, either.

Here's the icing on the cake: A Nintendo DS costs less than $150, making it a much cheaper alternative to individual computers."

Hideo Kageyama, professor at the Ritsumeikan University commented, "With speed, tempo and timing together, less strain on the mind leads to improvement in studying. Observing the students, they seem to be concentrating three times the usual and I thought that their degree of learning was much higher."

It really Shows how useful the DS is and how out-of-the-box Ninty is thinking.

Maybe it isn't Sony who will take over the PC....maybe it's Ninty, well at least the Pocket PC :)

this was covered a few weeks ago but ya, great stuff and i foresee the DS possibly becoming a good tool for language training.

This is it, the apocalypse. Nintendo hardware is replacing every other piece of hardware used for any purpose anywhere ever. Soon it will replace the human workforces of the world, and we will all be made jobless unless we accept slave wages tending to Miyamoto's garden, growing tomatoes and Pikmin. Then it will be found that two Wiis make better, more efficient parents than any of us can hope to be, and our children will be taken from us and..........

Sorry.. Got carried away there.
