Forums - Nintendo - Are the releases for 09 spread out and smart? Or clumped and a mess?

I already know there a ton of great games coming next year. The problem is if they'll be spread out or will we get a large batch of good games in a certain season.
(Like Spring this year) Then have an huge gap between releases and people will bitch all over again.

My main concern however is that if they are not spread out all the great 3rd party games will not reach the success they deserve. If all the third party games are released right after another some will get ignored and we might not see a much deserved sequel or developr might decide not to work on Wii etc.
(Then we get the fanboys saying X game didnt sell well and it sucked third partys dont sell blah blah blah.)

So how are the releases for next year looking?

The Wii sells the most software, and has the lowest amount of high selling titles (gold and above), so I don't think this should be a huge problem. If the games have a potential of selling on Wii, they will end up selling it.

This game should be an excellent example. http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=America&game1=Pinball+Hall+of+Fame%3A+The+Williams+Collection+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=40&weekly=1

Most 2009 releases haven't got a specific date yet, so this thread is pointless speculation. Not to mention that games can get delayed as well.

Well most at least have a tag for Spring Summer etc. Since not many have any release dates you can go by that.

Not to mention I dont think any major Wii game except 1st party titles have been delayed.

They always clump them together and then before release spread them out. Ninty did the same thing in 2007 with SMG announced for November and SSBB in December. It's just placeholders. Companies aren't stupid enough to release big games at the same time haha.

Depends how they rate the game.  Nintendo wasn't stupid to release 2 big games in the holidays at the same time.  However they don't mind releasing games that don't cross as much such as Wii Music and Animal Crossing: City Folk around the same time.  I mean I make it sound like its a simple formula but it depends on the kinds of games they are and how much they are expecting from the title.  That's why MK Wii and Wii Fit could be released around the same time as they knew they wouldn't compete for sales and would sell together.

I'm assuming you are talking about Sega's case in early 2009.  More than likely they can release Sonic around any of the other games, Madworld, The Conduit, and HoD: Overkill and it won't affect sales.  Sonic is a big property that won't interfere with the others for being a big brand that doens't infringe upon their genres.  Their biggest worry is going to be making sure the 2 new IPs, Madworld and The Conduit are spaced out and that HoD: Overkill aren't together.  So if I were them this is how I'd release the titles if I had to release all 4 of them in the first half of 2009.

Madworld- January/ February 2009

Sonic and the Black Knight- March 2009

The Conduit- Late April 2009

House of Dead Overkill- Late June 2009

And if they must push one to second half 2009 then do it with either the conduit or HoD: Overkill.  Otherwise this is the most probable release scenario.  This way Madworld and The Conduit have their own launch windows... hopefully separate from any huge Ninty releases and Sonic and HoD: can release and sell over time with their brand.

Sega has 4 huge games that all could be potential huge sellers... just they ahve to manage marketing and releasing of each efficiently to reap the benefits not only of it's launch but of the entire year.

Id have to disagree with that. The Conduit has so much hype for it I think a March/April release would be best. Anymore waiting people will begin to be impatient and some might even lost interest.

I think MadWorld/House of the Dead:Overkill are the titles that can benefit from a later release.

Other than that your points were great.

Well Madworld is a game that just can't necessarily release at any time. I mean to most of the mainstream world, this is a controversial game. Thus you want to release it in the month of least resistance, or a time where it won't get as much media attention. Usually the best time to do this is after the holidays. Now I know that sounds like it won't be getting any advertising but if you release it in the summer(the thought when most kids buy games) or the holidays(where media is all over entertainment products) then you set yourself up for all this shit against it. While if you release in early part of the year after holidays then your less likely to have to deal with this an have no fear of advertising it as you plz.

This is why Manhunt 2 releasing on Halloween was not a great idea but Rockstar doesn't usually care about controversy anyways. So no Madworld would probably not benefit from a later release. HoD and Sonic really doesn't matter where they release. The Conduit I only related simply because it could be moved but as you said it wouldn't be wise to.

I think the release schedule Zucas set up would work out perfectly. NMH was released in January, so MadWorld should be in the same place. (Jan. 14)

The Sonic game could sell well in any of these months, so I think it should get the April treatment, since Sonic Unleashed will be only 6 months old at that point.

The Conduit will release in Mid-march (Mar. 15) and it will not interfere with a House of The Dead release if that is mid-February (Feb.16) A month to spread out these releases is good, but hopefully they have other games upcoming that we just dont know of yet. You can't throw ALL of your cards on the table.

I didn't even realize Sega had such a strong schedule for 2009. Color me impressed.
