This thing just praises LBP.  WTF?

But its not going to sell anywhere near as-well as some of the more zealous fanboys think and its certainly not going to change the console war in any meaningful way, since the winner is already decided and the 2nd and 3rd placed consoles are so similar anyway. The fact that it got the critical praise people thought it would should be good enough. Don't get me wrong its still going to sell several million copies, but then again GTA4 sold over 10 million copies and that didn't change anything.

Obviously games are made to make money.  But to rate them on this is to me as silly as saying one film is better than another becasue it made more.

Some genres are more popular, innovation rarely sells well compared to polished regurgitation and from a critical point of view popular doesn't automatically mean good.

Titaanic made a lot of money - but do you think it was really 'better' critically than other films released that year?  I sure don't and neither would most experienced critics.

LBP will sell well I think, but its not going to outsell the big 'summer blockbuster' games around it (and despite the hype LBP is not such a game, its something rather more thoughtful and genuine IMHO and driven from a real desire to create something fun rather than hit certain marks to appeal to a pre-ready audience).

It's a shame that truly innovate and interesting titles (whether games, films, etc) suffer at the hands of more populous and less creative works, but that's the way it goes.  Look at games in particular, and titles like Deus Ex, ICO, Okami, etc.

All that's changed more recently is that reviewers now allow themselves to go with the hype, to award big scores for the big titles and gloss over their flaws or even mark them down for being good but totally derivative.  And that is a loss as it shows the industry closing protectively around itself, and chosing to favour money and 'same old same old' over new approaches.

Yup, good reviews are pouring in and it has a higher metascore than any other exclusive this gen (except Galaxy)

I was surprised when I read the thread , starcraft is saying "LBP is awesome", why the anger guys?
I know he hates the ps3 and always pour some hate on every thread but not in this one

Actually this is his second positive thread. the first i really thought he was taking the pee but now I'm beginning to think his views are softening to the centre of the console world. Of course this could all be planned.
