Forums - Sony - I decided on getting a PS3, now I have a few questions...

It took me a long time to make the decision, but the games that really helped me make up my mind: MGS4, LBC, Resistance 2, and I'm definitely hoping Killzone 2 turns out to be somethin good....

1:  Is the PS3 version of Fallout 3 really bad? I wasn't interested in it at first, but after watching some vids of it's gameplay, I thought it looked really cool. What exacly is wrong with the ps3 version? And about how many hours of gameplay does it have?

2:  Are there any good exclusive RPG's out right now, or coming to the PS3? I've heard all this talk of JRPG's being made mostly for the 360. My reactions about it are mixed - I love RPG's but I've also never played a single JRPG. I'd like to try one out sometime though - the gameplay on some of them seem really nice.

3:  MMORPG's - Do they even exist on consoles at all?

4:  This might be an awkward question, but it's a big one for me - When it comes to online play, is PSN poplular? For example, if I was to play somethin like Unreal Tournament 3 online, would I have trouble finding a game to join? I used to play Call of Duty: United Offensive for hours upon hours on my PC. I quit for sometime, then went back to it only to find out that there wasn't many servers to choose from anymore since everyone had moved onto CoD2. Now it's probably worse with CoD4 out, and will probably go near-dead when CoD5. Will I have have this problem when it comes to playing FPS games online? It's something I've been wondering about for a while...

5: Install times - they were frustrating in MGS4 when starting a new Act. I thought I'd only have to go through them once. Is there somethin I can do about it?

That's all I can think of for now.

I've bought both a 360 and PS3 before to try them out, and refunded both. Unfortunately, I was never able to connect to PSN, probably cause I didn't have a router. So what I'm gonna do is buy a PS3 with a router and see if that works. If for some reason it doesn't, I'll basically be forced to switch to 360 since I won't even bother with either if I can't play online. It was kinda hard for me to decide on a PS3 since 360's are so popular here in the US - having the more poplular console would be nice since you'll be more likely to play with people you know.

1> No idea.
2> Currently there are more RPGs on the 360.
3> Both the 360 and the PS3 have MMORPGs set to be released in 2009 (The Agency on the PS3 and APB for the 360). There seems to be a push to have more on the consoles.
4> I don't think you will have any problems for better games. People still play Resistance Fall of Man online and that was a launch title. Both COD4 and Warhawk are still doing very well online.
5> MGS4 was the only game so far to have multiple installs. Of the games that have installs, they rarely last for more than 8 minutes and it is a one time event.

Post here if you need problems connecting. You don't need a router to connect to PSN so you were probably experiencing other issues.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Buy Uncharted, it's an incredible game

Anyway, in terms of online, it depends what game you play. I think Unreal Tournament has a good community, especially with the mods, but I have had issues with Rainbow Six Vegas with a lack of players, but in Call of Duty 4 there was never a shortage, and that will likely be the case with World at War. I think with Resistance 2 there will be a VGC league so you can join that. If you are interested in Warhawk there is a league here also

In terms of install times, I can't think of a first party game that requires them, but many 3rd party games do, but in most cases it is just one install. A few games have them as optional, but it is mandatory in many cases

There are not many good exclusive RPGs for PS3, Folklore is a semi RPG, but I never particularly liked it, there are a few others but not many big ones. For jRPGs, White Knight Chronicles and Final Fantasy Versus XIII are the 2 major exclusives, and the former does include a degree of MMORPG

There are a few MMORPGs being developed by Sony Online Entertainment, such as the Agency and DC Universe Online, they are due out next year

1. There will be a patch so don't worry about that!

2. More on 360...but SONY have some really good ones coming like White Knight chronicles.....then if you like Strategy RPG's then PS3 is the place!

3. SOE (SONY online netertainment) has actually said all their MMORPG's from now on WILL be on PS3....so it already has more support over 360 right there.

4. No problem at all for games....its very popular & has OVER 12 Million people on PSN!!

5. Only MGS4 has that problem currently.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I know that Fallout 3 was meant for the PC so if you really want it buy it for that. Also I know that when you get an online message the game freezes for about 2 seconds :S

It's the only bug I noticed but it's ok because you can choose not to display the messages. On another hand it's very stupid, I've seen no games which have this bug, even Oblivion doesn't have it.

Do you mean it literally freezes with nothing moving, or is it more of a slowdown, because I have noticed that on Xbox games either when unlocking an achievement or getting a message

No it freezes. When you get "Guy is online" message for example you won't be able to do anything in game until the message disappear.

That sucks, how come every other dev has managed to avoid that, but they can't.... I think it is just lazyness
