You do realize that casual market has been bigger than the hardcore market for quite sometime right? Most consoles and handhelds are bought by casuals

Therefore your theory that if one side goes up, the other side must go down, is wrong.

I think it's just like PC games... there's enough room for both to survive.

Casual gaming has already overtaken hardcore gaming. Casual gaming has been growing for many years while hardcore gaming has mostly remained unchanged. I don't this will change during the next console generation.

No the wii is on its own. Microsoft and sony are rumored to bring motion control to their systems. For what? Not to enhance their hardcore market but to enhance their casual market.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

+1 for noname2200

sony already has some form of motion sensing in DS3, and so what if they release their own motion controlled console? that doesn't mean its the end of hardcore gaming.

microsoft and sony know well that they cant afford to have a motion control less console next gen and allow nintendo easy win, that doesn't mean hardcore gaming will go away tough, as long as hardcore games are selling they will make it.

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

I'm going to make a shocking prediction that all the console fanboys will praise their respective companies motion controllers next-gen and that it'll be a major debate point between XBOX and PS fans:

'ps4 has active-realtime sensor distributions! - oh yeh well 720 has gyroscopic stabilisers!' etc

Also I'm hedging a bet that motion controls next-gen will actually improve hardcore game control noticably

The introduction of a new gamer demographic that may or may not be more profitable does not determine which genres survive or fail, or what kinds of gaming are focused on in the future. What determines which genres survive is the ability of developers to produce games that attract enough support to recover their development costs and turn a healthy profit. What (really) threatens "hardcore" gaming is the insistence that all "hardcore"  games take full advantage of the processing power of the most powerful systems around, which (dramatically) increases development costs and threatens the profitability of these games.

Besides that, I think we really need to question what people mean by "casual" games. I have heard many people imply that "casual" games are too easy, and yet many JRPGs are considered "hardcore" games even though you only need a pulse to complete the game.
