Forums - Nintendo - The old CoD4 debate on Wii a year later

I would bet that COD WAW is running at 60FPS on the 360, whats it doing on the Wii?

Just to prove my point that you will never get a game as "polished" as COD4, here is a comparison of COD4 (360) vs COD:W@W (Wii) and The Conduit (Wii)

I don't get the obsession with the Conduit. Yes it has some lighting effects that are not seen otherwise on the Wii. But it pays for this with some of the least detailed environments on the Wii and tries to hide this behind a dark setting.

How can anyone compare this:

with this?

The conduit pics... the jagged edges are making my eyes bleed!

Lol, dont you just love a troll?

This isnt a comparision thread. The Wii WILL NEVER make anything half as good as some of the best PS360 games (graphicaly). The point of this thread to to see just how far the Wii has come in its own right. Compare what people thought the Wii could do in 06 to what its doing now in 08-09. Thats the point of it.

If that were the case there would be no need to mention the PS3 or 360. Or say things like "just as polished graphics".

Well i think the OP included those because that was the main discussion a year ago with CoD4. Im not sure what happened a year ago, but from what ive read people were wondering if the Wii could ever make anything within reach of CoD4. Now obviously that wont happen, but if you look at this from a technical standpoint, some of the graphical effects previously thought impossible on Wii are becomeing a reality (in one way or another). HVS is showing that the Wii can make a decent attempt hi-def graphical effects. In wont be able to tie it all together to create something as the PS360, but each HD graphic technique on its own achieved on Wii is very impressive.

Someone actually get's it.  I make a point in saying you can't make anything with as high of rez or poly count as a PS3/360 game on Wii but saying how the Wii has come along in a year.  I do think if you put CoD4 on a SD TV and compare it to a Wii game by the end of the gen we may get a game as visually impressive just visuals on the Wii will take a lot of optimizing, programing tricks, and doing things like they did with CoD4 on PS3/360 which was the texture trick to make it look like it had deeper textures and ruffles in the clothes when it really didn't it was a smooth model and infinity ward used their black magic on the game to make it look better then what it really should lol which tricks like that is what you have to do on Wii.  So by the end of things you may get something as amazing looking.  Remember Username looks DOES NOT mean it's compariable on a technical level.  It's like God of War on PS2 is a visually stunning game on Wii compariable to many Gamecube and Xbox games and even looks better then a lot of games on both of those consoles... BUT it wasn't a technical marvel the developers knew wheat they were doing when designing the game and pulled a few tricks like the fixed camera positions to pull off those sorts of things.  A Wii game by the end of the gen could pull off the same kind of visuals just from a techincal standpoint it won't compare.

Username2324, your making those of us who own HD consoles look like dicks. Please stop trolling crap.

He never said it will be the SAME. He just said polished, which may happen towards the end of the Wii's life.

Hell all you need to do is look at PS2 games when they first come out till the last few of the gen. The difference was amazing.

Back on topic, I think as people work out smarter techniques to do things, games on the Wii sure will improve, however I think this depends on how lazy or not the developer is. This is the only thing that I think is stalling improvements. The success of the Wii and casual games has made developers not give a crap and just pump out shit cause they know lots of new non gamers will get suckered into buying it.
