I think the best question is: "Will the DSi manage to captivate a new market, rather than cater to the current one?"

We've seen that the PSP-3k did absolutely nothing for software - indicating that the launch only sold to current users, rather than new. Will the DSi be different?

The key factors are going to be how well NSMB, Pokemon Platinum/D/P, and RTG do this week.

Why wouldn't he?  DSi isn't the next handheld iteration, it's only a redesign.

DSi itself probably won't reach the new market, but the DS games to come will, stuff like Wagamama Fashion.

Edit: Maybe it can break into the PSP market with its music functions and stuff.

Maybe? Try probably will. The DS is the big huge thing in Japan. Why go with the more expensive thing that's not even popular... when you can get all the same functions, pretty much, and WAY more... and have way more games and friends to play with? Y'know?

It'll break into the PSP's market. Maybe not WAY into it, but it'll eat a hole.

200,000 DSi units shipped for Japanese launch

Nintendo has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the company shipped almost 200,000 DSi units for the Japanese launch of the console on November 1.

The new handheld went on sale last Saturday, priced JPY 18,900 (USD 179 / EUR 129 / GBP 101) in the region.

It boasts a built-in web browser allowing users to access the DSi Shop, a camera and improved audio functions, a slot for SD memory cards and a slightly larger screen.

Although sales figures for the new hardware are not yet known, Nintendo also confirmed it is shipping a further 100,000 units this week.

So a little under 200k shipped first week. Should be able to beat PSP 3000 first week of 156k.

DS Lite is still between 135 and 150 Euros here in Belgium and Play-Asia is selling it at 235 € (+ UPS Postage)..
We have just to wait more...
