Forums - Sales - LBP wk0 sales have made it easy 2 determine the success or not for the game

I get the feeling that dedicated PS3 owners will buy this game to help make it a success story. Why would so many "hardcore" players buy this casual game, albeit a very well made one, when it doesn't fulfill their gaiming needs?

You don't get much more casual than with this game.

Yes, i believe that most sony console owners are hypocrites. No doubt that the game will sell, but i would be very surprised if it went higher than MGS4 sales.

Yeah, PS3 owners are just going to flock to the store to buy this game just to help sony out.  Everyone is dying to throw away 60 euro's for a game they don't really want...

Seriously, what the ...

I love long-winded RPG's, and I thoroughly enjoyed SMG for example.  According to your statement, every dedicated PS3 owner cannot love this game, and therefore buys it to stick it to every other console owner?

Get real...

OMG this is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard.  Dude, noone who is rational (many things depend on sanity) will pay $60 bucks to make the PS3 look "cool" unless they have some interest already.  Who the hell are you to say a game doesn't fulfill someone's "gaming needs", whatever the hell that is.  Casual and hardcore are labels that describe players more than games.  I mean, does a hardcore game reqire space marines and lots of explosions?  Hypocrites, what a ridiculously blanket statement. Troll to the max.

ioi already said that this weeks numbers would be larger than last weeks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 400k+ sales for week 2 in America. As it had a limited launch at a few locations.

LBP looks to be one of those games that have long legs.  Also, good word ot the mouth will also help it.

but with 4 weeks sales u will see how hard or slow its sales go down and u can predict how much LTD sales it will have ...

I don't think you understand how games that benefit highly from word of mouth work.

Games sold on hype open big and drop off regularily every week till sales settle down at a relatively low number. Games built off word of mouth often open small but keep selling regularily, with little or no drop off. (look at wiifit, its still in the top 5 worldwide almost a year after its release)

LBP most certainly has hype, and will without a doubt see its biggest 4 weeks in its first 4 weeks. But what the value of its word of mouth will be remains to be seen. If it is as strong as some predict you may seen many millions sold outside of those first 4 weeks, no matter how high or low those opening sales are. On the other hand, if its word of mouth proves to be weak, then it will likely follow the same arc as other high hype games.

The PS3 games I buy tend to be multi-million sellers. I think its off to a good start then.

Tease.

Some people think this game still hasnt come out. So, i think next week sales will be 200k in America. it will reach 300k in others on launch and 150k at best in japan. but japan could go either way, huge sucess of big failure.. hopefully sucess

Japan is a special market, but they respond well to mascot games that are innovative and appeal to their culture, that's why Pokemon did the unthinkable: They became the Nº1 JRPG franchise in a gender dominated by Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest...

Puzzle platformers are big there, and i dare to say bigger than JRPGS that are not in the elite list... That's why i think LBP could swim instead of sink, for me the main problem is that LBP is developed by a foreign company, although is a 1st party IP and Sony is Japanese, but Media Molecule is from the UK, so i don't know how the J's are gonna take it...

Well, we'll have to wait and see...

@ the anarchyz: MM have stated on their website that they have been told by many Japanese sources that they are not really considered Western, but Japanese (based on LBP), so they might actually not suffer from their Western origin.

Considering that the sales collected for week 0 are only 1 day of the game officially being out I'd say its done pretty damn good.

I hope LBP becomes a massive success even bigger than left 4 dead :O
