i love how all the nintendo fanboys are jumping in saying that its shipped and not sold to consumers without any proof.
its quite possible that vgchartz were slightly off, or it coulde be the same for sony.

Maybe you should actually read the reports before foolishly opening your mouth.

i did read it, it doesnt make any sense in it being shipped and not sold to consumers, that would mean only 600k ps3's in the world that arent sold. and what are the chances of that?

PS3 annually sells more of the previous year despite costs x3 xbox360.

Instead xbox360 annually sells less than the previous year.

In 2009 a PS3 price cut kill xbox360.

I also enjoy when people present factual information to clear up a misunderstanding. The "nintendo fanboys" as you say are just pointing out well known information. Sony almost certainly isn't off as it would end extremely badly for them if they were to report incorrect information. I suggest you do a bit of reading up on this site, or others so that you can hope to learn enough to comment on this discussion in a productive manner.

Based on past trends I would say it is extremely likely. Of course this ignores the fact that there were sginficiantly fewer sold during the time period Sony is actually reporting on but I am not up to posting another in-depth explanation in this thread. There are 3-4 posts that can get you caught up on the information you need should you care to hear it. The gap was around 1 million and that is about accurate for a non-holiday period.

Here's a tip, use the search function. This topic has been discussed to death.

ok deathgod i think i have this all figured out:
Sony cannot claim that it has sold to consumers anything because those numbers do not actually exist, so legally they can only list sold consoles.
Naturally i was skeptical of the 600k in the world figure, but apparently there would be more shipments soon after that.
At the time if you scroll back a month on vgc it would show closer to a little more than a million. almost double 600k which seems slightly reasonable given that sony is about to ship a few million for the holidays.

Your an idiot. Its not 600k PS3s, the data is through September 30 when Sony reports to investors.

We have sellthrough at 15.6m for Sept 30 for PS3.

When Nintendo reports its data tonight you'll see that we have Wii lower by a million or two million. We have it 32.75m through Sept 30 but the shipments are going to be 34m or 35m.

I don't see why this is so hard for you people to understand. Again, why would Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all report random figures at the same time of year for the same period if there wasn't a reason?

Again why would Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft want to report "16.84m" if they could wait a little while and say 20m? Its because they have to tell their investors and the government how the hell they are performing. We're not their customers - Walmart, Best Buy, etc are.

Sony doesnt give a shit if you buy $1000 in PS3 games from Walmart. Sorry to burst your bubble. The companies care that Walmart bought $100m worth of PS3s.

Once they know that, they pay companies like NPD to track where the product is ending up. If you and little Johnny stop buying PS3 all of the sudden, there is a correlation because Walmart wont buy more. But it would have to be millions of people not buying. Again, this is why they need data beyond what they can track themselves - sales to videogame stores and general retailers.

It's because people are lazy and don't actually take the time to do research. They download a single report without knowing much about the subject and jump to conclusions based on ignorance.
