Forums - Sales - If LittleBigPlanet Sales Are Not That Great What Does It Mean For PS3?

If it hits anything around 200k next week, which will give it roughly 350k in just over a week or so, its a success. People are raving over fable II's sales of 700k on a platform with over twice the install base, so 350k is very good.
Also, considering the general concensus is that LBP will have longer legs than a game like Fable traditionally has, 350k would definitely be successful.

I'm expecting LBP to sell at least 5 million in its first week. And you can quote me on that.

(I just want people to notice me...)

If LBP flops the PS3 userbase will fall to 0 due to PS3's worldwide simaltaneously imploding. /Sarcasm

If it does flop then it's business as usual aside for the muslim lyrics fiasco the game can only have a positive effect on the install base and if it has none then We have R2 to rely on.

Already around the forums we are seeing PS3 fans backing away from LBP a bit, and shifting their focus back towards Resistance 2.

In my opinion this is wise. The game could have been the second coming of Christ quality wise, and it STILL wouldnt have met their sales expectations.

You will never see a real PS3 fan back away from a game as amazing as Little Big Planet.

Didn't we have enough of this last night

The game sold 164k before it was even released. This isn't your traditional split first week of sales. Aside from the few stores that broke the street date, the 164k number represents the number of people that were able to pickup their preorder early.

@starcraft - People aren't backing away from LBP, but they are getting excited for Resistance 2. This is what happens when you have 2 big titles releasing within a week of eachother.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

if LBP didnt sell, well honestly i dont know which game will !!!!

I mean LBP is : Casual+core+Hyped+gorgeous+super well scored+holiday season+controversy!!!

If it didnt sell we are all doomed !!!

Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3), White Knight Chronicles (PS3), PES 2010 (PS3), Killzone 2 (PS3)

Games to Finish: Silent hill Homecoming (PS3), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3), Oblivion (PS3)

The thing is though LBP has been given a lot of support by Sony as people have mentioned. I think they have done well with the marketing of the game. The hype is up there with Halo 3. At least here in the UK. Everywhere you turn you see LBP adverts or posters etc..even most shops have a card board cut out of sack boy in the window. IF the game bombs i can't see Resistance 2 or KillZone 2 igniting the PS3 sales that some are predicting. I base this opinion on actual sales of the first titles. Im not sure if these are correct but LifeTime sales of Resistance in US is 1.2m. It sold 45k on release (is that right?). Naturally it was a new title and now has a bigger following. KillZone did not sell well at all. In fact even to this day it has not reached 800k worldwide and sold 30k on it's 1st day, that was obviously down to the savage reviews it got. But that was under 4 years ago. Only 1 year before the last gen ended and with 120m consoles to sell it too. Now all those things don't = the sequels will fail. Nobody knows what they will do. But to believe those 2 games will generate as much interest as say LBP is pretty hopeful. LBP is a game that can and has been marketed at the hardcore and the casual gamer. Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 can only be marketed at the hardcore surely? So it is my view that if Sony want a slice of the casual gamers then LBP is their IP most likely to get it. I would think Resistance and Killzone 2 will double there previous sales which would be combined near 3.5m units sold. If that is true then that will be good numbers for the games but it won't change the current trend. As others have said maybe it is an image thing now?

I think the question you should have asked is who owns or has pre-orderd LBP? Only then could you start to make educated guesses.

@ perpride

I fully agree with u but it's useless to tell Starcraft anything, just visit his LBP thread from last night. Anyway OT, LBP will do fine but as others said last night: WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK so we'll know what it ACTUALLY sold from a FULL WEEK of sales.

My LBP thread?

What?
