HOORAY THIRD PLACE!

Wait why we celebrating this?

PS3 is the successor to the PS2 which sold millions and millions. Brand image helps the PS3.

X360 is the successor to a console XBox that flopped in sales in comparison to the PS2. X360 has done well to improve upon the original XBox.

the PS3 will definetly surpass the 360. Hopefully it'll reach 20 million by the end of the year.

Between 20 to 21 million for PS3 at the end of the year.

Think the interesting thing this post misses is that the 360 has actually over the past 4 months (3rd of a year) massivley increased sales over the PS3. The gap is increasing and has for sometime.

are you mad? im sorry i do not see the "massive increase" you are jumbling about, there was a slight increase not due to gamer demand but rather price cut demand. and now he weekly sales lead is being reduced even with this price cut in effect.......... theres not been any massive increase when u work out the increase going off the price it looks very stagnant indeed.

last time ps3 had a major price cut the weekly sale went to 600k then hovered above 360 around 50k+ units extra per week most of time.

i think ur over estimating how mch extra 360 has sold

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

As far as microsoft are concerned this generation its....... JOB DONE, Afterall, they are easily gonna stay ahead of the ps3 until microsoft themselves decide to release thier next console, and if the next microsoft console has no hardware issues like RROD and consumers have confidence in the machine then sony really are in trouble. Brand loyalty only lasts for so long, Just ask Sega fans (Shame on them for not buying the mighty Dreamcast)

The 360 has performed brilliantly for microsoft this gen, God only knows what sales would have been like if the machine didn't suffer from RROD back in the day.

i m gonna get back to you next eyar when 360 strugles (after the price cut effects are gone and sony drops the price). And if sony plays their cards right and make PS4 similiar just stronger than PS3(hence lower cost and dev problems) and launch it with in 6 months from the next xbox ,the next xbox might become irrelevant just like the original xbox.

Impressive how a console priced at $400/600 can sell almost 17 million units. I doubt Nintendo or Microsoft could accomplish that, to be honest. They lack the power of the Cell Broadband Engine and the Blu-Ray of Death.

Impressive how a console a lot of people bought just to see BlueRay on TV (and not to play videogames) is selling so bad compared to its 2nd generation dominance...

I suggest MS to sell a new XBOX making coffee for the morning wake-up next time so they'll dominate the market maybe selling just a few games...

God bless all MS/PS3 fanboys! Without You the world wouldn't be so amusing...

UmE [playing Dead Space on XBOX and waiting Christmas issues to decide how to move with PS3]

As a PSWii60 owner, I don't much care who wins what, though I find it interesting. Obviously the Wii has won. As for this thread and the runner-up spot:

I don't know how people can still be so sure that PS3 will overtake the 360 worldwide. I just can't see it happening.

If the PS3 started winning weeks by 75k every single week, it would take about 18 months to catch 360. If they win by 50k weekly, it would take well over 2 years.

And in the past few months, the 360 has been stretching the gap, let alone being out sold by that much.

I have no doubt that PS3 will eventually close the gap. But I have trouble seeing how they can catch the Xbox the way things are going. I just don't.

1. Exclusives - not enough of them. There's a few. FFXIII in Japan. GT5 someday (though lots of those folks bought for Prologue) But it's not like the other side has none.

2. Blu-Ray - While they won the war, not selling as much as they hoped, and stand-alones are dropping rapidly in price. And digital distribution is picking up on a much faster pace.

3. Price - We know that's an issue - we're going to see it in the holiday numbers, I guarantee.

4. 360 momentum - They are picking up the pace right now, not losing it. They are trying desperately to expand the audience, and it's working. They have some heat in Japan, they are working the casual side of mainland Europe, etc. etc. They are never going to post Wii-like numbers, but they are doing enough expansion into the mainstream audience to not lose to the PS3 by 50k a week.

If I had to bet all my money on whether the PS3 catches 360 worldwide before the launch of the first next generation system, whether that's in 2011, 2012, or 2013, I'd say no.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?
