Forums - Sony - Should I get a BC PS3 for $500?

Like CDiablo, I also play tons of PS2 games on my PS3. Although recently my gaming time has become more and more PS3 heavy, I still have a lot of PS2 games I want to check out.

For me, it's a no brainer. You can get a PS3 now, and have a PS2 and bluray player for $500 + $10 for an HMDI cable (monoprice.com). Or you can buy a PS2 ($130) + PS2 component cables ($20?) + PS2 memory cards ($20?) for $170. Then buy a PS3 when it's $300 + $10 HDMI cable. So you basically only save like 30 bucks. Why not just take the PS3 NOW and enjoy it?

Plus, you will have basically unlimited space for saving PS2 game saves. I have about 4 "virtual" cards on my PS3 that I've already used for my 30 PS2 games. So you will never have to worry about deleting save games or buying more memory cards.

I would say if you think its worth $500 for a BC PS3  that has a pretty good sized library (amazing library if you count the PS2 games)  or do you wanna shell out around $120 for a brand new PS2.  And Playing a PS2 on an HDTV won't look that much worse that if you played a PS2 game on a PS3.

Same to you.  And obviously Manuelf doesn't want the PS3 to fail seeing as he said buy one next gen which would mean still supporting PS3.

- Heavenly Sword

- Rachet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

-Simpsons BD

- Dark Knight BD

- Futurama Seaon 1 BD if there is such a thing

-about 35 PS2 games, inlcuding Rachet and Clank, Jak aqnd Daxter, Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, MGS just becuse the $500 PS3 comes with MGS4 so might as well play the series, lots of other random games.

 

So is it worth buying? I was thinking of waiting and just not getting PS2 games, but since the Yen has fallen 10% in the last 2 days, I don't anticipated a price cut for PS3 until fall 2009.

 

 

It's obvious your PS3 game selection are all exclusives, and it sounds like you can use the convience of BC and the upscaling.  I'll be the first one to say that I REALLY struggled about getting a PS3.  And when I finally did, it really became a core part of my audio/video living.  Do it because you'll expereince an indescribable "WOW!"

Wrong.  The PS2 is virtually inconsequential right now.  There is a higher chance for the PS3 to "fail" when it's supported later by users than earlier.  That applies to any console.  Judging by Manuelf's post history, I don't blame Max's comment.

ok whatever.  I was just arguing for the sake of arguing.  And yeah your probably right.  Except right now the PS2 is just a cash cow, and i really really don't see the PS3 failing as it has tons of killer exclusive games coming out, so the chances of the PS3 failing are pretty much nada.
