Forums - Sony - SCEA $499 PS3 Boosts Sales 135% at Top 5 Retailers

@ superchunk

Nice. July's overall count will be interesting. PS3 may finally trounce GBA

I don't think the GBA and PS3's market has much overlap. I think the GBA receives more direct
competition from for example mobile phone gaming.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Around the Network

From what I can see it looks like around 120k for June total and then for the two weeks following the price change sales were up 135%. Which I think would mean during those two weeks you will see 40k-50k a week in NA. This is just rough estimation off the top of my head. Someone else can probably give more precise numbers and info.

Let me know if I missed something...

Edit: I noticed that it seems the 21% quote was about SCEA retail dollars generated yea-over-year so the 21% figure could be completely unrelated to the PS3, so I am not sure the 120k number is correct...

So PS3 will actually sell over 100K in July, amazing

the price cut is for the last two weeks so..

100K/5=20K

20x2+2x(20x2.35)=40+97=137K for July. I would expect around 160K for July TBH though.

These are US totals not including canada.

Wow ,your maths are pitiful .

Selling 135% more is actually selling the double plus a 35% more .So if it sold 98K units then the July data should be 230 300 units .As the price drop wasnt present all the month it will be naturally less ,that has to be taken in count .

I expect for the month of july some 200k units sold for ps3

To get a 135% increase you would multiply the average week by 2.35 in this case it would be 94K for 2 weeks if they are saying it is due to the price cut( I added 3k a week to be generous, on top of that I actually added 2k a week average to round it off avgain and be generous). Last month was 5 weeks I think July will be 4 weeks If not you can add another 47K if it really increased 135% over last month.

The average week in June sold under 20K so the first two weeks would have been 20K a week or 40K.

After the price cut it gets a 135% boost and it would sell 47K a week or 94K for 2 weeks for a total of 134K. if it is for the whole month than it would be 235K

If this is indeed the case, I think it proves to the people running Sony that the 80gig can't be sold at $600.

^That was kind of obvious. The question is, how much?

I was being facetious, teasing the Sony fanboys for the PS3 failing to pass 100K last month

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

The math duels here are very entertaining =)

This is a good showing right now, let's see how long it lasts, hopefully through to Xmas with some good software hitting every month from now to the foreseeable future.
