Forums - Gaming Discussion - Metacritic needs to figure out what they are doing.

We all heard about the situation with LBP's score this week. We all heard the excuse from Metacritic. Now here is another question for you.

What is the highest score 1UP gives? A+?

As much as I love Fable II, Metacritic has their scores wrong.

GTA IV was given an A+ from 1UP this year, obviously a 95-100 so accordingly Metacritic gave it the score of 100.

Fable II was given an A from 1UP, which judging from past Metacritic scores, A ranges anywhere from 85-94 considering Tales of Vesperia recieved a B+ and Metacritic gave it an 83.

Why did Metacritic take 1UP's A score and translate it into a 100?

I don't go by reviews anyways, Fable II is an awesome game. I would just like to see consistency from these sites.

Opinions?

Honestly there is no way to spin around this, it is obviously wrong.

Waiting for: FFXIII, GoW3, GT5, Mass Effect 2

Does anyone remember when you people didn't even read review scores? I'm trying to remember what NES players argued about. OH YEAH THE GAMES THEMSELVES

Metacritics are told what score to put by the publications so I guess your point isn't valid.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

It isn't just Fable II. Metacritic gives a 100% for all "A" reviews and "A+" reviews. I just checked on three other recent "A" scores they gave out(World of Goo, Portal: Still Alive, Bioshock PS3) and all of them got 100% also. It isn't scored correctly, but it sure isn't bias. They're consistently wrong across the board.

@Onyx

Now what I find stupid about that is how does a B+ equal low 80's, B equals 75 and above, then A- turns into high 80's to low 90's with A and A+ being automatic 100. Yet when you go to a B-, you would figure it means somewhere in the 70's judging by how they are rating the A's, yet B- is a 67? B- = 67, A- = 91. B = 79, A = 100. B+ = 83, A+ = 100.

I think if Metacritic doesn't know what these score equate to, they have no business making up their own bogus scores.

For the record, I do not think they are being biased, I just think they are not as reputable as some believe they are. Gamerankings seems to have the letter system understood while Metacritic has their heads lost in the clouds. I can almost 100% guarantee this 1UP on Gamerankings will equate to a 95.

I personally do not decide my purchases based on review scores although some need to understand that many gamers do. The reason I made this thread though is because sites like Metacritic, which people seem to go by are consistently wrong and I wonder

#1 - Why can't Metacritic get their heads out of the clouds and do this right?

#2 - Why do people consistently go by sites like this when they are consistently wrong?

They should remove the top 5 and bottom 5 scores, Olympic style!

I honestly don't know why they score it the way they do. Why not send an e-mail and take it up with them?

I wasn't saying you thought they were biased. Another member danielhuru made those accusations earlier in the thread. For the record, Gamerankings does equate "A" scores as 95% which seems more fair.

I know the biased remark wasn't aimed towards me, that is why I had a break in the two paragraphs, I just wanted to put that out there just in case I was accused.

I probably should send an e-mail though to see what bogus answer they hit me with. I just don't see this as being very professional on their part. It seems more of Metacritic being lazy.

They told us earlier this week they gave LBP that score of 80 based on what they read in the review. Now are they trying to tell us that each and every A rated review that they read seemed to lean towards a perfect scoring? I think they never read any of these reviews to begin with.

I find this be unfair to those games that recieve A+ scores. Now what differentiates the two?
