Forums - Gaming - What's the best RPG platform?

1. Which platform do you think got the best RPG titles?

Well, I think sony always got the best RPG titles. A not sure why, but since Square left nintendo in the 90s for sony the RPG community also changed to it. PSX and PS2 got the best variation of RPGs, while the nintendo consoles don't even have 1, as far as I know. Why do you think is it that way? I also wonder why the nintendo handhelds got more RPGs than the consoles.

 2. What do you think is better for RPGs: PSP or NDS?

I'm not sure which one I should buy.. what do you think?

3 . What I always wonderd: why are there not so many RPGs from japan for PC? While the western industry mostly produces for the PC japan goes forconsoles and handhelds.

In my opinion the PC is the best platfor. Everything a console can do a PC can do better. Plus everyone got a PC so more costumers and less costs for them. Consoles are just so popular since they got a good publicity, younger people got no clue about how to use a PC and probably the most important factor is that it's traditional way to play games on consoles. Most console players I spoke to argued that way.

4. What do you think IS the best platform for RPGs? [not GOT like in the 1. question]

I say PC.

The ps2. Has the best rpg's right now. There are some good rpg games coming out on the psp, but I dont know about the ds I think it has more rpg's.

1. Which platform do you think got the best RPG titles?

Last gen? PS2. This gen, it is still up in the air. DS is the overall winner now, IMO.

2. What do you think is better for RPGs: PSP or NDS?

Again, DS.

3. Different Market.

4. ???

1: Best systems for RPGS: SNES/Ps2
2: Since I hate load times, DS, also, since the PSP has ported a lot of RPGs, it's just offering old (But great) games on a smaller screen.
3: The stylizing of console/PC RPGS seem pretty different to me, Japan has their style.
4: Ummm, the Devs do what the Devs do. A fantastic RPG could be made for the Atari 2600, and technically the PC world is the one that expands the most so has the most potential. But seeing as many RPG games are being made for both PC's and Consoles, is that particularily relevant?

See Ya George.

"He did not die - He passed Away"

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

The PC of course! What other system has the Planescape: Torment, the Baldur's Gate trilogy, the Fallout games, or Arcanum???

No wait, we seem to be speaking different languages here. =P

Hmm.

1. The best current gen (X360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP) is undoubtedly the Nintendo DS, without a doubt. The lineup is just freakin' huge for JRPGs.

Alternate answer: For consoles-only, it's the X360 by a wide margin. It has a very very strong collection of WRPGs (Oblivion, Fallout, Mass Effect, KOTOR 3, Sacred 2, ect) and JRPGs (Far East of Eden, Mistwaker titles, Eternal Sonata, Infinite Undiscovery), and looks to maintain the pole position of RPG dominance for WRPGs for the entire generation, and the lead for JRPGs into 2008 at a minimum.

2. The best overall in history is the SNES, for major franchises. Tales of, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Soul Blazer/Terrangamia, Far East of Eden, Lufia, the list goes on and on.

Alternate, the best in terms of massive library (not quite quality-wise) is the PS2. It probably has close to 100 RPGs. Some better than SNES, but I still think SNES takes the cake.

3. It's probably because the NES was huge in the formulative years of RPG development, and sold very very well (Dragon Quest), and just stayed that way. The US had the market crash of 83, and Europe never got uber-strong console support for years, therefore both markets focused on strong PC RPGs. EA was a huge reason for this, as they were the best, by far, developer of WRPGs for years, well, them and Sierra.

4. The best platform for RPGs is the one that allows the developers to create the best RPGs out there. IMO, that's the 360, because it's the only console in a very, very long time that has both major-IP WRPGs and JRPGs. Not even PS3 will come close until *maybe* 2010.

This year has a great X360 lineup for RPGs - Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect, Two Worlds, Culdicept Saga, Kingdom Under Fire, Sacred 2 just to name a few 07 releases (or tentative 07 releases). Very good IPs too - no slackers. I'm in the top 1000 RPG players on the X360 right now, and it's so fun to play 'em consoleside, even the WRPGs.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

1.

PS2

2.

DS

3.

idk but mayb because microsoft makes windows and stuff they dont want to buy pc's but thats my opinion

4.

PC for me but pokemon is the greatest RPG (man im gona get made fun of)

1. Difficult to say. Out of the next-gen home consoles, it is the 360 at the moment I think, but if japanese developers are really shifting resources towards the Wii it could also get the most (and best) RPG's. But it's also very probable that the DS will beat them all (Square-Enix is focusing on the DS more and more, Namco announced that the DS will be the main console for the Tales series...). Out of last-gen home consoles, it's the PS2 without a doubt. The GBA is a distant second, it offered a few new and a good library of old RPG's.

2. The DS; reasons are above.

3. Japanese people are not playing with PC's, therefore japanese manufacturers are not producing for PC either.

4. This question is not asked clearly enough IMO. If your talking about technical conditions, the PS3 is most likely the best. But I can also give you reasons that the Wii is the best one for RPG's, turn-based games could be controlled with the Wiimote and lower development costs should offer a wider library with more innovations because the risks for developers are not that high. A 360 supporter could surely also give you reasons why his console is the best for RPG's, so I think one can't answer this question unbiased.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

Right now the PS2 is the best. All time favorite is the Snes. The Ds is showing a lot of potential for future RPGs (there is also a lot of good ones right now).

I find what you say to be true about the 360 but the thing that bothers me is the stigma that the 360 can't be a console for RPG's. That is pretty much based off of last gen but I wonder how long/what will it take to make people realize the 360 is different from the Xbox.

On topic:

1. SNES

2. NDS

3. Japanese don't game on PC's.

4. Can't Say!
