Forums - Nintendo - The official NTDOY/Nintendo discussion thread

I just found this entry today about Nintendo, its shareholders and the ADR. I won't repost it here since it's long but it's a MUST read for anyone interested in Nintendo investing.

good stuff!

yeah, as one of japan's top 10 companies, they really are cheap when they say it's too expensive to split its stock. recognition is important for an industry like the video game industry.

so they do buy back stock! good for us.

effectively nintendo stocks are $40,000+ in japan... even berkshire created its 30:1 stock for trading when it got expensive (not sure when that happened). buffet can't be wrong!

the Wii is an epidemic.

i use etrade. my wife just opened a scottrade account.

zecco sounds like an up and comer with some novel ideas, but i haven't looked into it much.

also, unknowingly, i learned that etrade is now a premium broker. and it's ranked #1! how times change. from discount broker to premium broker.

apparently, if you have over $25,000 in an account in bank of america, trades are free. in general, it seems like we're moving in the direction of free trading--free as in free lunch, not free speech.

okay, another obscure reference. not that obscure though given this site's audience!

E-trade is supposedly adding trading for some international markets, so it might be possible to trade Nintendo directly soon. That is if you have $55k+ sitting around LOL.

down again. How far do you all think it will pull back this time? Its getting more temping as it gets closer to $50.

so... down about somewhere between 2-3% today, but looks above $57.

that's over $1 more expensive than 53,000 yen=~$56. kind of like futures? hmmm, i wonder if people have done those kind of studies, if ADR's are a good indicator for stock prices openings the day after in its native oversees market.

who knows. $50 is 47,600 yen.  53,000 yen right now.  still over 10% away, might not get there.  i'll probably buy under $53.  it's at $57 in america, still a long way to go.

the market the last couple of days has been more bullish than i had thought.  is the subprime business again, considered isolated?  what's the deal with risk-aversion?  it seems like it's vaporized all of a sudden again.

i'm still a bear--i think the broader market will at best fluctuate in the next few weeks.  that says very little about nintendo though.

Yea I want to get in soon. At least before the next bid news for Nintendo.

Something coming in September, then the next earnings is when? October?

If they can outsell PS3 and 360 by a couple million in NA over the holidays the stock should skyrocket, but who knows.

$3 billion is about how much Google made in 2006.

and... it's market cap is $150 bln this year.

last year... probably around $80-90 bln?

i'll be very happy if nintendo can achieve $80-90 bln at year's end.  by then, it's all about whether nintendo can really expand the market to a whole new level with Wii Fit and other products, like hopefully with DS educational software.

there's some spelling game coming out on the DS.  there's a music training game, including training for perfect pitch, which i'm very interested in.  i'll be encouraged if more of those come onto the US market.  it's about reaching a critical mass of educational software--that starts justifying the $129 up front payment.

i should keep a list of these kind of upcoming  educational DS games, it'll be a good guage to the popularity of DS down the road.

I need to bookmark this thead. Looks like a good buy time now or soon.
