Forums - PC - OK you PC guys, I just don't get why mouse/keyboard FPS is such a big deal.

@Squilliam
Well, as far as controls are concerned, it does always boil down to personal preferences. Heck, i even prefer PES on my PC( it somewhat increases shot accuracy imo). But still, i find the control pad not that intuitive when it comes to shooters, especially something like UT or CS which require instantaneous and precise targetting

Mouse+Keyboard players will destroy gamepad players, every. single. time.

Besides that, auto-aim is for babies.  Seriously, why play a shooter that aims for you? Ruins the whole point.

Mouse+Keyboard or Wii. I'll never use a gamepad for FPS.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

Its not really a significant issue for the slower paced - cover driven type shooters. Im talking Killzone 2, Gears of War, Halo 3 type games which aren't hugely fast which I like a lot more than bouncy fast shooters.

Auto Aim is fine, its not like you'd miss if you had a mouse anyway so its not really a big difference.

Admittedly, I don't game much on my PC.  I only play the occasional Medal of Honor and the original Half-Life.  I was just playing some Half-Life right before I typed this and after my zillionth time falling off of a narrow cliff ledge, I thought I'd bring this up.  I understand why you love the accuracy of aiming with the mouse, but what I don't understand is how you tolerate using the keyboard for movement.  You are limited to a digital (not analog) input.  I like the precise movement that an analog stick gives me.  Using the keyboard feels like I might as well be using a D-pad.  It seems like you PC guys taking 2 steps forward and 2 steps back.  Increased firing accuracy at the expense of decreased movement accuracy.  What are some tips/tricks/pointers to get around this problem?

WASD= The better form of the left analog stick. Mouse= The better form of the right analog stick.

That is all

Did you ever play an FPS game on a dual analog setup?  If you didn't have auto-aim, it would take even longer to hit and kill people.  Halo 3 will auto-aim so much as to literally track enemies for you, following them across the screen in your recticle without you even touching the right analog stick.

If it didn't, the game would suck because it would be so hard to shoot people.

Even if you let console gamers have auto aim and you pitted them against PC gamers without auto aim, the mouse/keyboard combination would absolutely crush the console gamers in 99 out of 100 cases.  It wouldn't be fair because the input mechanism is inarguably superior in so many ways.

Okay since cars were mentioned above, think of this problem as Manual vs. Automatic (Actually the whole overreaching PC vs Console argument can be summed up by this). With the automatic you got your auto-aim, slower acceleration, and all that stuff. Now with manual you have all this control over your car that it's ridiculous. Generally speaking going from Automatic -> Manual is nearly impossible and very few people pull it off since many just give up and don't want to deal with the complexity, meanwhile going Manual -> Automatic is also very rarely done. I hate automatics, I hate how much control I lose, and ultimately whenever I drive an Automatic the driving is boring beyond belief. Manual makes driving extremely fun and interesting and you can do so much more with the car.

Now both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I don't think anyone out there will start telling me Automatic is better than Manual in any way other than the driver's lack of will of learning Manual. Sure the automatic has its advantages, especially in heavy traffic, but in the big grand overall picture it's no match for a manual. I'll race my crummy manual against any automatic car out there and I would probably still kick ass.

Auto-aim or sticky aim for what it does only helps the low skilled players.  For any of the better players the sticky aim makes it harder to play.  Take CoD4 for example, sticky aim screws up anyone in that game who averages above 1:1.  And depending on the game using a mouse will not help you at all.  Tactics and teamwork is what will win the games.

And when you go against an equally organized group better players will win the game, and if evenly skilled whoever has better control will win. Welcome to the world of REAL competative FPS games.

Movement Issues??????????

pretty sure it is way easier to move around and manuever using a keyboard and mouse than a controller.

And I say Keyboard AND Mouse, because the mouse if used for moving too. You hold W on the keyboard and you move the mouse around and you can turn all around. Now you also have 3 more buttons as well. 2 strafe buttons adn a back button.

Moving around is a billion time better on PC than a console.
