- Considering that 3M Wii user base > 1M PS3 user base, it is not so "shocking" that the Wii game preorder exceed PS3 game preorder.

- hypothesis only :
There is not a lot of good game on Wii, so even a MarioParty8 (mediocre?) is better than nothing for Wii owners that are still playing WiiSports since 6 months

@Parokki: Yes, it is a good sign, you shouldn´t forget one thing though: If retailers pre-order 300k units of a game they don´t expect to sell out after the first two weeks (look at the hysteric about Dragon Quest Swords, they didn´t expect to sell out and they are going crazy now.) so if the game sells 300k copies after the first two weeks, there is little chance the game will sell in exceed of 1 million if it doesn´t show significant legs... we´ll have to see, but we should expect HSG to be successful at least.


actually DQS has a better chance than you think (won't reach a million but it can get up there) because it sold about 308k in the first 4 days, even during week 1 it was being fairly supply constrained, and in week 2 it had to have sold out. 

Usually games that sell about 300k will then sell about 140k the second week but DQS didn't have a chance to do that.


Oh, you misread my post: I said retailers usually preorder enough for 2 or 3 weeks - I totally agree it is another story with Dragon Quest: Swords as it sold out after the 5th day as it seems. (I actuallytried to point out that Dragon Quest Swords is another case if you read my post carefully again).

So: Jupp, I totally agree

 

@WiiGirl: I´m sorry it is true. Mario Party on Wii will probably sell to the casuals and the core gamers. As for the game beeing mediocre I´m your oppinion there... it is fun though.

From what I've played of HSG5 it isn't much above mediocre either. I mean I didn't hate it like I absolutely hated Mario Party and wanted to kill that talking hat thing, but I would never buy it.

By this logic, HGS 5 should sell well too because it's one of the few PS3 games aimed at the Japanese audience so far.

I'm a serious core gamer and I've been waiting for Mario Party 8 for a month now on my gamefly account. Hope I get it this week.

On a side note, I'm personaly not into these games and have never played a Mario Party game, however, I have 4 wii-remotes and a bunch of friends. I can see where people shun this kind of game if they like (or are forced) to play games by themselves.

HSG preorders were 300K two months and a half back .Maybe now they are higher ?

Mario Party is a very bad game and has received terrible critics ,maybe japanese will show they "knowing " of games and not buy this thing .In any case its a great franchise .

I don´t think a retailer phones Sony for 50 HSG units and phones them one week later for another 50?

They are propably still about 300k. Maybe 350k.

Given the desperate situation for the PS3 in Japan and that Sony fans are posting really every piece of positive news on the internet we would know by now if the retail preorders were higher than 300k. So my guess is, they are still 300k.


 Of course, I didn´t want to start the next forum war here
