Forums - Nintendo - Are Third Parties Really Familair with the Wii Architechture?

Funny, i've made a similar post not long ago in the Go Nintendo comments... :)

And you're totally right, very few 3rd parties made exclusives for the Cube, most games were ports that didn't use the Cube architecture and power to their fullest...

The Cube was an excellent console, superior to the PS2, but most dev's ignored it due to its kiddy look and Nintendo's reputation, and used to struggle with the (horrible) PS2 programmation...

And it's clear that it took them a few years to take the best out of it, most of the best looking PS2 games came out in 2005-2007 only... let's hope we won't have to wait three years untill we see excellent 3rd parties on Wii, both graphically and gameplaywise...

Btw, you forgot a team in the "experienced" Cube programmers: Suda 51 and his "Killer 7" team... i think "No More Heroes" will be one of the best surprise in this first year of Wii games, if not in its lifetime, at least for those who could like "hardcore" cell-shading style...

About Ubisoft, i think "PoP's Sands of Time" and "Beyond Good & Evil" looked better on the Cube, so let's put some faith in the best Ubisoft teams, and let's hope the big bosses will quit their "quick and lame ports" commercial tactic...

I also think the Squarenix teams could do very well on Wii, even if the first FFCC was not as handsome as it could have been... but there are very talented people working there, so everything's possible...

The other very good surprises could come from the newly founded "Seeds", but let's also hope that at least one more port will see the light of the day on Wii: Okami... that's the only one i'd buy day one without any question... with RE4, but that's already done... :)

You are right I did miss Suda51. You are also right about PoP: Sands of Time. It was one of the few GC games to win an IGN head to head comparison if I remember correctly. I had BG&E on GC and it was very nice looking game. Unfortunately Ubisofts GC titles were quite uneven and I remember the poorer titles better than the good ports like Sands of Time and BG&E. Anyway, great post 68Soul. I appreciate your contribution to this thread.

Well Miyamoto did say that if developers wanted great games on Nintendo systems, they should put their top teams on making those games, not their third tier teams.

BTW, remember Chris Hecker's comment about the Wii? Now I'm wondering how much GC development he personally did. In other words, how would he actually know what even the GC can actually do, let alone one twice as powerful?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I think many of them can push it if they wanted to, but whats the point.

Even if they max out the wii for a game, it will still be over shadowed by whats being done on PS3/360.

Chris Hecker, the guy behind Spore, the fool that said the Wii was a piece of sh1t and that it was two Gamecubes duct-taped together... and actually, he already issued a public apology, stating that he was trying to be "thought-provoking and entertaining," and that "it's obvious that everybody at Nintendo is passionate at making games."

I think Spore is first well known game.

Psshhhh.... If you want Spore, go play Cubivore on the Gamecube. It is the same concept, but with less freedom and bad camera. However, it came out in 2002, while we will have to wait for Spore until, at least, 2009.

P.S. And we can all ignore Nonquihote's comments.

Hell. He works at EA. How can he say that another company product is shit. Also, what is that about games as art. I have never seen artistic games and EA together.

Eternal Darkness was originally build for the N64, just like Resident Evil Zero. Later on it was decided to bring those games to the GC, that's why ED looked kinda outdated already at its release and RE 0 didn't look as good as the REmake.

@Deguello

Rayman 3 is another good Ubisoft port, in fact it's the best version of the game because it has added minigames that even make use of the GBA connectivity. What else do Rayman 3 and BG&E have in common? Both are from Michel Ancel and Ubisoft's french studios (at least I think that Ancel and his team are working in france).

Actually, Eternal Darkness was originally for PSX, then it moved to GC, then it moved to Xbox 360

Edit: And, yeah, I'd like to see an Okami Wii Edition as well

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

1 word: RTFA

You are confusing Eternal Darkness with Too Human it seems, which happens to be from Silicon Knights as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_darkness

"Eternal Darkness ~The 13 Chosen Ones~") is a psychological horror video game originally planned for the Nintendo 64 but later released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube, and largely inspired by (but not directly adapting) the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Developed by Canadian developer Silicon Knights, it was released on June 24, 2002 and published by Nintendo.
