Forums - Sony Discussion - Will PS3 ever get hacked?

The way it is going,PS3 will never get hacked.Hackers are trying very hard but it is very difficult with the firmware updates and the security features that are there in the blu-ray.Xbox 360 and Wii got hacked because they use lesser quality disc like DVD and their security features are not that up to level. Also their firmware update are not that big of a thing for the hackers. This is the reason PS3 is not selling that well in the non developed nations with big populations like China,India and whole of Asia. Will it ever get hacked?

Eventually, everything gets hacked :p There is no hiding from the pirates, they will get you sooner or later!

It probably will be hacked eventually. But Sony is doing an amazing job up until now with regards to piracy. This is especially impressive considering the trouble that they have had with their past consoles especially with the psp.

Cell chip has security built into it, at hardware level. That is why it's been imposible too crack so far.

"The architecture's main strength is its ability to allow an application to protect itself using the hardware security features instead of the conventional method of solely relying on the operating system or other supervisory software for protection. Therefore, if the operating system is compromised by an attack, the hardware security features can still protect the application and its valuable data. As an analogy, consider the protection the supervisory software provides as the castle's moat and the Cell BE security hardware features as the locked safe inside the castle".

The 360 doesn't use HD-DVDs...

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

all consoles have always had hardware level security features. That doesn't make it impossible to crack, it just makes it more difficult.

The PS3 will get cracked, believe me, it's just a matter of time.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Your wrong, all consoles don't have hardware level security features. Most use software: PS2, PSP, DS, Wii, Xbox, 360, all use software. Nothing out has hardware level security features as advanced as Cell.

It's highly doubtful that the PS3 will ever be hacked.

Sorry buddy, but PS3 is hacked already. The only problem is that it really depends on what you mean by hacked. In the way of PS2 or PSP easy way to hack and play every game that is out for the system - then no!

It's funny that the TC asks at this time because just the other day I read on a PS3 forum that a breakthrough has been made in the past few weeks. Not sure of the exact details but they've managed to reverse some sort of data that now allows them to make flash changes, and it has allowed them to uncover other pieces of security that they couldn't find previously. Also iirc they have exploited this to successfully repair a bricked PS3. Can't remember the site but yeah, it seems to be a significant advancement.

first of all the ps3 security has nothing to do with blu ray

xbox360 does not use HD-DVD

its a matter of time before they figure it out. Which would probably help SONY's case eventually.. the psone and ps2 wouldnt have been even half as successful had they not have been hacked.

The console isnt selling in china and india because it costs $800-1000 for the console.. at those prices it wouldnt sell well in the UK/NA either . the xbox sells for around $350-400 in those regions and is doing alright for itself.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
