Forums - Sony Discussion - Will this be PS2 last xmas

The playstation 2 won't die before 2010! they'd be mad to stop producing a console that still sells so well and still move softaware!

Not with the line up coming for these holidays

Kingdom hearts Chain of memories
Persona 4
Poison tears

etc..

and a bunch of multiplat games, really unlikely.

The PS2 will be around until the PS3 is $200 or less. Without BC in the PS3, it might even be around longer than that.

The PS2 will be around until next gen.

The PS2 will outlive the PS3, no doubt about that. It's still selling and making $$.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

The PS2 won't stop selling for a while. There still needs to be the price cut down to $99, then maybe some colors for the Slim (???) if there aren't colors already. Maybe another price cut if the HW is that cheap to produce (I doubt it).
The only thing that would slow it down much quicker is if the PS3 finally got its Backwards Compatibility back.

The software will still be around to support it for who knows how long. I want to think the PS2 will go into 2009 with it's last Christmas. However, in 2010 it might be there, but current-gen systems like the Wii may get a price cut by then and by Xmas 2010, PS2 sales will be minimal.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

It's selling well in Europe and America still, and is currently the second best selling non-portable console in Japan. The PS3 doesn't replace it's functionality, its graphics are comparable to the Wii, and it still sells a shed load of software. Unlike the XBox, it's still profitable for Sony to continue to sell it. No need to consider dropping it for the forseeable future.

the greatest console of all time wont ever stop selling until every single living organism in the world has one!
