Obama is far more popular in Australia from what I can see. McCain (whether he deserves it or not) has inherited the dislike of the Bush administration.
That clip says nothing about qualifications. He said that he wouldn't do it because he'd basically have to start his campaign immediately (in 2004 right after the Senate race).
Obviously he's managed to do all right in that area.
The newsman did say that he "suggest[ed that] he lacked experience", but the clip of Obama does not substantiate questions on qualification. It only proves that he "flip-flopped" on running for President.

I believe you can write in any candidate. Presumably that's how people vote for Donald Duck like we hear about. And those people who put "Jedi" as their religion on surveys.

Well, I disagree with this assertion of yours, "But they aren't the ones who IMO contributed to the problem, except by insufficiently fighting the deregulators." That is not, however, related to the issue of experience. I think McCain's woeful ineptness in responding to the "financial meltdown" clearly showed how clueless he is in regards to the economy. He wanted to assuage the public's fears in regards to the crisis, and to do this he had to promise intervention and large government-two things he has been marginally opposed to in his senatorial career.
Jackson50: I'm curious as to what else you think the Democratic economic theorists did wrong to contribute to the current crisis, and whether you think McCain will keep those promises.

I place the blame on all politicians for continuing our stupefying Federal Reserve System. I think their policies have contributed to the current mess. I, in all seriousness, think McCain's economic policies would be disastrous for the US. I agree with him on trade issues...and that is about it. He wants to increase spending by approximately $100 billion, yet he wants to cut taxes? That is fiscal suicide.
So why doesn't Obama run for the prez of Germany if they like him so much... I kid, but why would an American vote for him just because Mexican's and German's like him.
I do agree the one reason I think Obama would be a positive is international appeal. But it is not a good enough reason to vote for him.
