Whoops
I paid $0.00 for 10 years of Playstation Network

And it was worth it?

I didn't think so.

Since when has a company forced the consumer into an agreement other than the one they agreed to?

He agreed to a re-occurring payment of $7.99 a month. Regardless if there's a better deal out there, I am certain there are laws preventing companies from switching consumers' plans without telling them.

What's so hard about sending a little email saying:
"Dear Thomas,

Would you like to upgrade your Xbox Live subscription to Gold(?) Membership?"

So why would they send him that email when he already has an XBL Gold Membership? That's what he was paying the $7.99/month for...

Anyway, I'm not sure why he would think that MS would automatically roll it over into the year long plan. The $7.99/month plan is good for people who maybe only want to play online for a month or so (e.g. Halo 3 releases and they want to play online with their friends while they are really into the game for 2-3 months), but otherwise he should definitely have just gone with the year plan from the start.

I guess it's because he just used his credit card to pay for it that he didn't really notice. I bought my year using a pre-paid card and now that my year is ending MS was kind enough to send me an email saying that my XBL Gold subscription would end in another month.

LOL, he should be in the darwin awards.

those are for people who died in stupid ways or did something... so they cant reproduce

With all the time he is going to have to spend on XBL to recoup his costs, he won't have time to reproduce.

Any company with a ounce of self-respect would refund the guy the extra money he overpaid for.

Do people realize when you call support over anything (important or stupid shit) they are raising costs and justifying the charges.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

He didn't overpay. This isn't like buying something and they forget to give you the sale price. If you buy a car off a loan, you pay more than when you buy a car outright in cash. The bank doesn't reimburse you afterwards for the extra amount. The 7.99 a month is set up for people that do not plan on having it all year. It's not for people looking for a yearly subscription and that's why it costs more. This is a standard business practice. Look at the perks phone companies and cable companies give you for signing up for a two year agreement instead of a one year. You save more by commiting longer. There are hundreds of examples of this in everyday use and I'm sure you didn't have a problem with any of them until big and bad Microsoft was the benefactor.

Tell me this good sir. Sony charges $2.99 for an episode of Qore on PSN. If you buy the yearly subscription it's only $24.99(13 episodes). If you bought them each individually it would be almost $33. Do you think Sony is going to give free episodes to the guy that bought month to month instead of the yearly subscription? Get real.

The amount of people who search long and hard to find ways to critisice Microsoft is astonishing. The guy in question here is entirely in the wrong. He has a subscription, effectively a contract, and everyone on earth knows it's up to the subscriber in ANY subscription setup to make changes to the "contract".

Will you teach me to football?

This one is simple user error, he signed up for it new the price and here is hte key ASSUMED when he hit $50.00 they would roll, it over, also took him 1.5 years to figure it out.

I just bought anohter 13 months for $40.00 on sale at amazon.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game
