I have lots of things to stay about your claim that games with stories are better than games without (which is implicit in your statement above), but rather than argue that extremely complicated, effectively inarguable point, I'll point out why I think most people here are saying Wii Sports is so important.

I think most people are simply highlighting that Wii Sports was the most influential game produced last year, and possibly the most influential produced in the last 5. It had a strong influence in the rapid and unexpected shift of the entire industry. When a game has a profound impact on the trajectory of the entire video games market, that makes it a very big deal.


Again when did I say that, There are plenty of good games without stories that are insanely better than those with, mario party is an example, but there were some great epic games that came out in 2006, wii sports was a new type of game but I dont think(my opinion iight) it is worthy of Game of the year award. I think GOW2 or Kh2 or the wii version of zelda should have gotten GOTY awards.

GOW2 definitely not. In the same way that Brawl will not win GOTY, God of War is just not GOTY material...it's a great evolutionary game...but it doesn't do much to bring something new to the table.

im gonna have to say brawl..just thinkin of the possibilities gives me gooselumps....doesnt mean anything but i think they are gonna make this a must have game for all gamers....if they do it right(fingers crossed)



Dammit...i gotta think of a good signature, maybe something informing...tell the ppl somethin..or maybe a joke...get em laughing...no thats stupid..how bout i talk about me tryna figure out the perfect signature....omg thats the gayest thing i ever heard, thats gay like richard simmons and ponies, thats gayer than spandex and rainbows, forget it...

What's interesting for those people that say graphics matter, the five games that were nominated were: Gears of War, Oblivion, Okami, Wii Sports, and The Legend of Zelda: Twlilight Princess. Notice that three of those games were widely criticized for bad or last generation graphics.


This is BS, no one criticized Okami for looking bad and no one counted graphics when evaluating Wii Sports. Anyway those would be my top 5 minus Wii Sports and I would have given it to Oblivion over Gears easy.

The original God of War won GOTY and/or came in second only behind RE4 according to other sources.

RE4 was the difinitive Game of the Year it came out in, most sources placed DMC3 at a close second, few others, God of War.

No it wasn't. Can you name all the game of the year awards Wii Sports won last year?

Considering the best game nominees from the previous Game Developer Choice Awards (Gears of War, Okami, Oblivion, Zelda, and Wii Sports), I predict:

-Mass Effect (GOTY)

-GTA IV

-Super Mario Galaxy

-Assassin's Creed

-Halo 3 (even if Call of Duty 4 is more deserving)

Okami's graphics were widely criticized? According to that link, Okami won Best Character Design and Innovation, and was also nominated for Game Design and Visual Arts.

Game of the Year awards are as pointless and political as any movie/music award ...

What exactly makes a game the Game of the Year?

If it is highest sales, in 2006 that would have been The New Super Mario Bros.
If it is highest rating by critics, in 2006 that would have been The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
If it is most hours played, in 2006 that would have been World of Warcraft
and so on ...

In any given year you will have dozens of games which are worthy of a Game of the Year award, but the winners are typically the favourite game of the handful of individuals who get the opportunity to vote.
