Forums - Sony - How has SOCOM launch has gone.?

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this.....but, it's times like this that make it a little easier to give Microsoft $50 a year ($40 if you order a pre-paid card from Newegg.com). Microsoft at least makes an attempt to upgrade or add more servers when a big title is a coming out so that they launch with as little trouble or aggravation as possible. I have trouble understanding (especially with so many complaints about the beta) why Sony/Slant 6 or whoever is handling the servers for this game could not see this coming with adding more servers to handle traffic that they should have anticipated.......very disappointed

probably the reason they didnt hype this game at all is because the department for socom didnt get the funding they needed for the servers etc and they were hoping not to overload them with too much hype and maybe steadily increasing the capacity as it became more popular. i dunno just a guess as to why sony hasnt really pushed this game out. they are too busy making the servers perfect for LBP :P which i can kinda understand.

You haven't actually played xbox live have you?

In the year I had xbox live on my 360, the only downtime I ever experienced was in christmas due to the overflow of players playing in that week.

Anyway, I wonder why I didn't hear about the launch of SOCOM, wasn't this game touted as a big PS3 exclusive? For those who have played it, is it any good? I may just go and pick this up (headset is enticing aswell).

Apparently the retail version of Socom Confrontation is having almost as many problems as the beta.

NeoGAF is full of complaints, and here's a screen cap of the official PlayStation forums:

I like the topic at the bottom...

Due to the tremendous launch of SOCOM Confrontation and large number of

simultaneous players connecting, we are experiencing some server load

issues.  We are aware of the current server issues and we are actively

looking into them.  We will have these issues resolved as soon as possible.

Regards,

SOCOM: Confrontation Online Team

Looks like they did no think the launch  was going to go as good as it did.

I use to own a 360.

So... that doesn't qualify as a problem and doesn't sound similiar to what i said?

No one tooted it as a big ps3 exclusive.

@CAL4M1TY - I played the beta and aside from the numerous technical issues the game was great. It is similar to COD4 mp, but it is third person. It is also a lot more difficult than COD4. My favorite feature was the proximity chat. Essentially, you push to talk to bring up a secure channel with your team, but anyone within range of you can hear what you are saying. In the beta it was very easy to find the enemy because of this feature.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I say 500,000 minimum opening week, and it sells 1 million in its 4th week. Something like

1. 500k - 600k

2. 150k - 200k

3. 75k - 125k

4. 40k - 75k

So optimistically it has 1 million in 4 weeks.

You're nutz. This game will be lucky to get 100k first week.

This is why games should be shipped with a single player campaign, at least we would have been able to enjoy some parts of the game while they fix the servers. As it stands this game is just an expensive screen saver.
