Forums - Sony - How has SOCOM launch has gone.?

I haven't played the previous Socom series, so should I play the first one or can I play this instead?

@Branko2166
I think it is but if not you can import it.

Socom got almost no hype or marketing during the final stretches on the manufacturing cycle, the only sort of exposure it got was from the headset. Given how the game technically looks, I'd say Sony didn't put alot of resources into this game either. I will be getting it for the awesome looking headset though... then ill probably open the box in the store and trade socom in for credit towards deadspace immediately. If the reviews are good, then I'll either rent it or download via PSN.

Being an online only game, I'd dare say the downloadble sales might take a fair bit away from retail disc sales for those who don't need/want the headset.

If you don't want the headset, you may consider ebay.  A lot of people will buy the game for the headset and try to dump the game on ebay.  I suspect you will be able to get the game sealed for $25 in a few days.

The beta got progressively worse for me.  Each patch seemed to bring in more lag and random glitches.  The gameplay was some of the best I've seen, most of the technical issues should be resolved within the month.  Socom has a huge community.  The game should sell well.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

We got in quite a few copies today, and sold them all but three, and those three were all pre-ordered, so we're just waiting for them to get picked up. So really, we're completely sold our.

I know I'll be buying one. The headset is awesome, and the game + headset only costs $10 more than the headset by itself. Just from my employee discount and various promotions, if I trade the game in I'll probably end up paying around $30 for the headset. :D

It is not made by zipper so my hopes for this game aint that high for me MAG>>>>>>>>>>>SOCOM. in this case. the only reason i would even get this game is for the head set, but wait i want the head set so i guess i am going to be getting this game,

Considering how SOCOM 3 and Combined Assault were, I don't really have much confidence in Zipper for a SOCOM game.  3 wasn't bad, but it wasn't SOCOM.  If they released SOCOM II HD, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.  Unfortunately Slant Six seems to have missed a lot of the things that made SOCOM I/II great.  For now I am probably going to pass on the game.  At least until they release Foxhunt as DLC.

Well.. Just ran to Best Buy and picked up Socom with the Headset..

I got the last one remaining.. I talked to the guy working there and he said that they had about 65 that they received and sold them all. They also had 4 of the game only sets left as well.

Looks like it should be a good seller, and I did enjoy the beta and was alot of fun.

Shame that I had so much going on during beta to not play it as much as I would have liked. A week long trip to Mexico, then a couple weddings and of course, spending time with the GF.

how do you pair up the headset with the PS3? I've plugged it in via USB & i'm getting a flashing red & green lights on the headset itself but the PS3 scans for a device but never finds it

Did you get a System Update message on your PS3, because I've heard that the headset might not work unless you update your Firmware

Plug it in from the back of the headset itself, not the stand. It will automatically find the headset. Don't pair it using bluetooth

Plenty of copies around my parts.......possibly cause of the complete lack of advertising.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
