Vista is incompatible with many of the old school and foreign games that I like to run. Touhou refuse to play with any music, some of my sidescroller doesn't work etc.

This is probably the only reason I am still using xp. Its impossible to find support for them anymore/in the right language and I do still play them regularly.

I think the Vista is doomed to collect dust until my next computer upgrade. By then maybe Win7 would be out :p.

I think the fabled lesson here is always wait till SP1 to upgrade. Even with Windows 7.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

It’s so funny to see people freak out when a new version of windows comes out. I remember 98 coming out and people loved it right off... they did not change too much save more power being needed. 2000 and ME was a joke, it was all networking add-ons and driver fixes that could have been fixed with a simple XP patch. The thing they don’t tell you is 98 was getting too cluster fuck patched already so they streamlined the code to make it more task oriented that’s all.

Xp was the same thing as Vista is now. I remember sitting in Devry talking to some classmates when the buzz about XP started. It was laughable to hear all the people moaning about how they changed this or that. O boohoo you all work with computers change happens every single day, learn it, deal with it, and get over yourself. XP at start had more blue screens of death then I could count. Like every piece of software it was patched over and over again till it worked like it should have. Vista is the same way.

I have built my own PC from the ground up, put it together, Dual boot XP and Vista, and have never seen my PC freeze once. The real problem with vista came from all the idiots thinking their PC could handle it when they could barely keep XP alive. Then came the Mass PC makers with cheap parts, old XP drivers, and god knows what else to cut the corners. They slap together some kind of Frankenstein like monster of a PC and expect it to run this brand new OS Vista. Well it’s just not going to cut it. The PC I built 5Yr ago runs Vista Day 1 never a single problem. My brand new PC runs both Vista and XP never a problem.... strange huh?

I got my Vista during may this year, SP1 was already out, I DID wait before I got Vista, unfortunately the games I mentioned are just too obscure / old for anyone to bother. I'm not blaming Microsoft, but given the choice as I have both XP and Vista, I stuck with XP simply because I refuse to play Touhou without the music.

Also NEVER EVER get any MS product at launch, wait at least few months for them to stamp out the bug before you leap, their history is too checkered with 'oopsies' to not be cautious.

I heard both good things and bad things about vista. What I can tell you though is all the business people I know don't want a bar of it. I don't care either way because I only use mac osx now.

This is hardly limited to MS. Anyone who relies on IT for their business who doesn't wait (this is usually while doing systems testing anyway) is bound to be burned by brand new products. Major OSX and Ubuntu updates also suffer some serious problems in their first few months, they just don't get the coverage that Vista has.

That said, Vista is just history repeating itself. People complained just as much about XP when it was released.

I don't see why people complain about it... I love it, I was sticking with XP because I kept hearing stories about Vista... The only problem I have had is I had to dowload something to play Civ 4...

Am I missing something here?

I am using the Home Premium 64 bit edition.

Can you link me too what you downloaded to run Civ 4?

I can't make it work.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I have Vista on my laptop and XP on my desktop and I hate Vista because of how everything has changed around. I don't think it's just a case of me being used to XP and not willing to change I genuinly thing the functionality of XP is miles ahead of vista.

Just as much??????, if that was the case, then the Vista marketshare would have to be right now at 39-45% (XP achieved about this in the same amount of time back then), but they're right now at 18.33%, not even half of it...
