| shams said: There won't be a price cut until 2009 I think. Next year they will offer a couple more Wii paks (more pack-in games) to add value - instead of cut the price. Has the DS received a price cut yet? I remember it launching for the same price that it is today (now you can get a Lite + game for the same price).

The DS launched at $150 and later they cut the price to $130. Then the DS lite launched. Anyway, I expect the Wii to have a price cut during the summer of 2008 if sales drop a bit. But if they don't then maybe the summer of 2009 like you said.

Bet with OriGin: Within 1 year Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be ahead of Mario Kart Wii (when aligning the one whole year from each region). 2 week ban from Vgchartz for the loser. Edit: Darn! Looks like OriGin will win.

Wow, where would this forum be with your super clever remarks and information?

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling one of Nintendo's core strategies with the Wii is to keep interest in the system high (in the non-gamer crowd) through the introduction of unconventional add-ons. Now (generally speaking) this is a bad strategy because few people are willing to pick up a system and the add-on so the add-ons never sell well enough to be well supported by third parties. I expect Nintendo will get around this hurdle by creating better and better bundles which include these add-ons so that all systems sold from then on have that capability (meaning that if your system continues to sell well the add-on should be well supported).
This year the Wii bundle could become a Wii, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Balance Board, Wii Sports and Wii Fit for $250 (They could probably sell it for $200 if they wanted); next year they can (potentially) continue adding things on to the bundle as developers see value in supporting the current add-ons or they could move towards price-cuts.
Hypothetically speaking a Wii, 2 Wiimotes, 2 Nunchucks, a Balance Board, Wii Sports and Wii Fit for $200 is such a family friendly product at such a family friendly price that it can easily compete against a XBox 360 priemium or 60GB PS3 at the same price.

Of course but it would still have sold. People were saying 250 was too much when it was announced but that wasn't the case. In fact the biggest issue this gen is not power or lackof power it is raising the entry cost of gaming even beyond that of inflation and lossleading problems that create oterh problems down the road and failure of userbases to get high enough to recoup the cost of epic games to the companies that make them.

At least he didn't pull the "If the PS3 was the same price as the Wii" line. Stupidest argument I've ever heard by the Sony fanboys. Well.... except maybe the reasoning for DMC4 to stay a PS3 exclusive on that online petition
To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.
2008, only if there's like a $250 Xbox, haha.
If you were Nintendo, why would you make less money when your product is still selling like mad? And no one can say when sales will cool, I could see it still super super popular well after Christmas. It's been selling crazypants and it has so few games NOW, imagine after the Big Three at least.

Off topic, but why must people say it has so few games?
Super Paper Mario
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Excite Truck
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Pokemon: Battle Revolution
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Bigs
Scarface
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
The Godfather: Blackhand Edition
Mario Party 8
Warioware: Smooth Moves
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Wii Play
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
SSX Blur
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
Wii Sports
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Madden 07
Elebits
All very buyable games for a wide variety of players. Compare that to the 360 after it had been out for 8 months and the current PS3 and that's a fairly good list.
-edit-
And don't take this as me saying that the 360 or PS3 had bad games, I'm just saying when looking at the other two, the list of Wii games isn't bad at all and comparable and even better (though that's my own opinion).

Off topic: This is the same thing that happens when anyone says the PS3 doesn't have any games. Just like one person can look at the Wii list and say, "Hell yeah, those are great!" and another person can look at the PS3 lineup and say, "Whoa! What a lineup!" Either way, it's tiresome. The point is, the AAA offering on both systems is slim.
On topic: When the wii stops selling out, we'll have to take a look at it's weekly sales. What if it's selling between 70-100k a week ... do you think they would bother with a price cut? And, the chances are we won't see a price cut until 2009. In 2008, they could release the Wii in new colors and it would increase sales. And you know how Sony and Microsoft are decreasing manufacturing costs? Guess who else is ... when they do cut the price, they could still offer Wii Sports as a pack-in and sell it for 199.99.
