Forums - Gaming - Is Sony done for?

The PS3 is no were close to done for. The demand for PS3 is extreamly high, and 150k avaerage sales a week on a $400+ dollar item proves that. Up to this point the PS3 has sold nearly as good as the PS2 to this point in its life, and it has done it with very little big name games. Out of the three consoles on the market right now PS3 has the most room left to improve. Sony still has a ton of price they can cut, they still have dozens of big market games left to release, and the PS3 is the most capable system on the market this gen. With each PS3 having a Gb eithernet port, and a HDD it gives PS3 a major upper hand in digital distrabution over any other system. This is somthing that will not only become very relevent over the remander of this gen, but also when the PS3 reaches the PS2's current situation. In 2012 if Wii 2, PS4, and 360x2 are out, and each system is 300+, then there is a PS3 at 150 that nearly does everything the others do, what do you think most consumers will go for?

Looking into the nearer future, things are looking very bright for the PS3. Sony and Nintendo both hold the price cut card in there hands now. I think any logical person would see that as more of a Sony advantage though. If it were not for the horrible economy at this time, I think Sony would have cut the PS3 price this year. Since now it is not an option, they can instead wait tell next year when they will be able to cut the price by a substantial amount. A price cut during the holiday period makes very little sense in reality. People are going to spend the money at this time anyway, so price cuts do very little for Nov/Dec. Now during the slow times of the year a big price cut can make a differance, because at that point saving a hundered dollars is a major deal.

As for games, the time of the PS3 stride has now begun. Sony's first and second party studios are finally getting into a rythem, and looking at the next 18 months the line-up looks very strong. Delays are going to happen much less as most devs have already had a game on the system, and the ones still yet to release have given themselfs more than enough time to make sure the games are out in time. Big games like FFXIII which is exclusive in Japan, and Gran Tursimo 5 are going to hit the shelves. Smaller name succsesses like God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank Future 2, Killzone 2, and more will find there way into stores. New IP's like Infamous, M.A.G., and Heavy Rain will give people new experiances not possible on any other console. While older games, become greatest hits, and give new buyers a larger library of low price, but high quality titles. The the last and most important is the psn.

PSN is growing, and there is no limit to how big it can get. More and more we will see full fledged 3rd party titles coming out on PSN. Publishers, will continue to show amazingly inovative projects like Flow, Flower, Pixel junk games, and much more. Episodic content will become a reality, and perhapps it will be free with, some in game adds, thus giving gamers a TV like equivilant to the blockbuster coming at right now. As mentioned before PS3 gives PSN the room to be bigger than what any other console on the market can currently offer. As internet speeds rise, only the PS3 has the hardware to truly support the convenince of Digital distrabution. With that said PSN is more than just games, and the PS3 is an entertainment system.

Firware, Firware, Firware, how did we ever live without you all these years. As everyone knows PSN has seen a very nice face lift due to firmware, along with many other parts of the PS3 operating system. Future firmware updates still have a lot to give to both PS3 and 360 owners. We have already seen PS3 and 360 get vidoe download services, and MS has teamed with sirus and netflix, but this is just the begginging. PSN for Sony, is going to become the biggest project they have ever worked on (and Sony is a giant company with a long past, so that is huge). PSN is going to become Sony's way of getting content to evry device, be it Sony or not. Anything digital you can think of will come down this pipe, and be compatable with any device you own. The PS3 will basically become the home server that runs your digital life. I have to go, but I will be back to comment on the comments.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Oh the irony, this reminds me of 2007, were people thought sony would discontinue the ps3.

Exactly,  Was it last year that we got NPD numbers where X360 sold 5 times more than PS3?...Everyone was like it is over for PS3!   After some months the PS3 was selling more than X360 and it was very quite....Now MS manage to sell more X360's than PS3's....And bam...Sony is done for again..

Sony was lucky as it was that MGS4 was coming out and they had the recent price cut. Before MGS4 they were feeling the wrath of Microsoft. The hot titles will decide which console is more popular. The price of  the PS3 really isn't helping though, with the Wii still being $250 and the 360's pricing going from $200-to $399 and as an added bonus you can get the elite for the same price as a PS3. At the end of the day it's a battle for the holiday season pitting PS3's games vs Xbox 360's games (And the greatest incentive for holiday shoppers on the 360's side is the platitnum hits and the fleet of games that came out from January 2008 to September 2008):

Gears of War 2 (AAA)

Fable 2 (AAA)

Halo Wars (AAA) This is coming out fall of 09. Nice try. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170466

Banjo Kazooie (this game i'll give you for now but will take away as soon as it gets reamed by ratings sites. I don't ever hear anticipation coming from news sites, only "well they changed this too..")

Naruto:The broken bond (This game looks like crap in comparison to Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, which for some mysterious reason got forgotten on the ps3 list. good job)

Scene it: Box Office Smash (I can hear the spin now, "Scene It sells 1 million worldwide between 2 games.")

Lips (More like Unproven IP that will dwindle in the wake of Rock Band/Guitar Hero. SingStar won't even sell that much because the karaoke is being replaced by instruments)

You're in the movies (don't get me started on this crap. And unless Microsoft pimps this game out to every tv station and magazine, it will be easily forgotten like most camera games.)

Vs

Resistance 2 (AAA)

Socom: Confrontation (will be a shadow of the older games but will still sell really well)

Little Big Planet (AAA)

Motorstorm (will not sell as much as the original motorstorm, but should easily clear a million)

Singstar Vol.2 (look at lips, might have a boost if Sony tells everyone about the playstation singstore and the disc swap feature.)

Valkyria Chronicles (couldn't hold a candle to Star Ocean 4...luckily Star Ocean 4 comes out NEXT YEAR, also PS3 fans are so RPG hungry, I could see them bending over backwards to buy this game so it will easily clear a million)

Stop complaining and just add games to the list. All of those games are going to be either AAA or cool titles for the holiday season. I missed games on the 360 as well. Those aren't the only games. Someone added Left4Dead as well to the 360 list. Add Naruto, I totally forgot about it. The fact still remains that 360 still has a shitload of good games games compared.

STAGE got pwned...

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

Wow people are desperate to try and tell themselves the ship isn't sinking. Anything good the PS3 is getting is pretty much the result of the PS2's momentum, how will the PS3's momentum help the PS4? All Sony really has is their first and second party support, and Nintendo showed us with the Gamecube that in itself is never enough.

These first and second party IPs are not selling that well either, especially not for what development costs are this generation and these games certainly aren't making the same splash in the gaming community as their predicessors did last gen. No matter what reviewers say about these games, their impact on the market is for the most part undewhelming. Of course there is no shortage of excuses on the behalf of the SDF here to account for every compromising fact that sullies this library, but to simply just jump back n' forth between the camp of sales matter and the camp of reviews matter doesn't instill a sense of confidence in onlooker.

I see more people showing interest in every new obscure PC game coming out than the PS3's exclusive lineup in most places. For Sony this is a generation of sequels not new IPs, games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and LAIR are proof enough of that. None of these games coming out for the PS3 will be a Gears of War or an Assassin's Creed, no matter the reviewer scores, fan hype or push by Sony, they one after another do will mediocrely by their own measure.

And no matter how you try to spin it, Sony has shot themselves in the foot for any possible success next generation... and if nothing else they've been force to stretch their resources ever thinner this generation.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I wonder, when everything is all said and done, will these same people try to convince themselves the PS3 had the best games this generation, or will they still be looking towards the future as proof of their conviction?

This entire generation Sony fans have been living for the promise of the games of tommorrow and the potential the PS3 has yet to deliver on. Two years after the PS3 launched, things have changed so little. I wonder if Sony fans will ever be able to truly enjoy the PS3 for what it is and the games it has at any given point in time. Even then, their satisfaction in the PS3 and its games seems solely dependent on he affirmation of others to tell them that these games are in fact good and worth envying. Perhaps it is this lack of envy for the PS3 and PSP this generation that is making it so hard for Sony fans to enjoy their products.

It may seem annoying now, but you're all going to thank me for locking the piece of crap that this thread started as and has become.

So anyone with an opinion that happens to be unfavoreable of Sony in this thread is trolling while anyone with something good to say about Sony is on topic?
