Forums - Microsoft - Fable 2. ALL Doubters enter. You have to see this.

I will start by saying that Fable 2 I believe is the most advanced next gen game by a long way. Why? It's all well using the extra CPU power for better graphics. But Lionhead have used alot of the extra power for having a (and I believe for the first time properly) fully fledged game world. STOP you say. Unh unh. Absolutely every other game does not even come close to the intricasies of Fable 2. I had no idea it was this good. Finally a game that not only uses the extra power for graphics but also for keeping a tab on everything in a living breathing world. No doubt for me now that this game is game of the generation. Dont understand?

Watch this and listen to every single word they tell you. The hype perhaps wasnt enough.

So what game would you say has this much detail? Gears 2? KZ2? Oblivion? MGS4? None of them come close. It's one thing having awesome graphics. It's another to be able to have a chain of properties for instance and be a landlord. Own shops, set the prices. Sort out the stock levels. Decorate your home. Affect the economy. Become a conniseur or ladies man. For instance Oblivion promised so much, but falls so short in comparison to Fable 2. Yeah in Gears 2, the graphics are awesome, but as usual you pick up a gun and fire it. In terms of next gen gameplay Fable 2 has done leaps and bounds. Thats my point. Finally it's not just ooohhh look at the ai there it ran for cover pretty good. Look at the texture there. Those things can get old quick.

==> I dont think it is so impressive to have these features on a game ...
Indeed, it is maybe "long" for developpeurs to make all these things working but I doubt it is so "hard" to make it run on a console.

Also, I m not really interested some of these "second life like" things like being married for example ...

The only thing I can say is :
The visuals look good, the game has his own identity and that is really important for a cinematic game.

I don't know all these you can do what you want to do things never made me want a RPG.

The best RPGs are not Oblivion, Daggerfall, Morrowwind with their endless character customization and huge worlds. You could become an Assassin, thief, buy a house, be a vampire or werewolf etc. in games as far back as Daggerfall. Which is nice but honestly it didn't make the game much better.

The best RPGs were games like Baldur's Gate 2 and Fallout 2 which had cool storylines, lots of elaborate quests that were not generated in any way but designed. So I am pretty sceptical about this single player MMORPG thing.

if this thread was about or r2 the fanboys would be "so much is r2 gonna outsell gears 2 by."

^ Kyros. It's fir enough you mentioned Daggerfall, Oblivion and the like. Oblivion being the most elaborate out of those. But Oblivion was still very limited in the end. You could do any quest and buy (selected few houses) but it was essentially still driven. I can appreciate that not all people will like the fact that quests in Fable 2 give you no reward (at all!) But to me thats what I have been waiting for. Something which shifts gaming into far more detail. To earn money you actually have to get a job, business, properties.

In all past RPG's whether it be JRPG or western RPG, they all have for far to long been tied to the stories so much that the gameplay differences are only ever world design and battle design. I commend Lionhead studios for upping the anti severly.

As long as it makes the game more fun that's fine. I simply doubt it. That really sounds like a MMORPG without human coplayers. Which may be ok, I mean lots of people like MMORPGs.
But for me a RPG is primarily about telling an interesting story and the story is almost never mentioned at all when people talk about Fable2. Your mileage may vary of course.

I respect your opinion that you prefer linear story heavy games. I think you will agree though that if the story is good you'd like it. The other things that they have in Fable 2 is real weather. Storm clouds build for an hour before it chucks it down. Seasons change (lasting different lengths). For instance Oblivion had snow in one place. Fable 2 can have summer, snow storms all in one area. (thats why they say real changing weather and seasons.) Constantly growing plants from seeds to 100ft trees. Entire towns can be demolished from the game I play caused by my choices. Wheras in your game that town will be there till the end. This effects the economy then.

See what I mean by next gen? Even if you dont like that, it's the first in any game and certainly is the first game to not just use the CPU for pushing graphics.
