Forums - Nintendo - What's Nintendo working on? Even more Wii and 3DS games.

2009 won't be epic at all. But like I've been saying since mid 2008: 2009 was going to be the slowest year ever for any Nintendo console concerning 1st party games. It's true, only 5 new games this year.

But on the other hand, in 2008 I also said that 2010 was going to be the most epic Wii year on its entire lifetime when it comes to 1st party releases, and you just watch because next year will be glorious. IMO 2009 was the worst year ever when it comes to 1st party Nintendo games, but next year will be amazing.

Prediction made in 2008 and many called me a Nintendo Troll/Terrible Wii hater but the prophecy was indeed fullfilled.

And this marks my first post as a VGChartz Obsessive. 5000th post!

Do you know what I think Retro Studios is working on right now. They are working on a new Kid Icarus game for Wii.

You know wiisley the very well could be but I think I'd prefer to see them try their hands at a completely new IP. Both would be great games but I'd like to see what Retro could come up with on their own.

@Tres: Retro have been busier than it seems I think.. They've done Trilogy, which was finished last year and took a small team and they've helped Ubisoft with Red Steel 2, but that's just what we've seen on the surface.

They've had to sort themselves out after having 3 top people leave and a top programmer die. They've been rumoured to have been working on Zelda, perhaps prototyping different things, which leads me to my main point..

Nintendo make prototypes of games all the time, sometimes a small team of 3 - 5 people will be working on a prototype for years until it's ready to go into fullscale production. If Retro are indeed making a brand new IP then I think that's what has been happening and why it's taking 3 years for a new game to come from them. Remember, Retro are Nintendo and that's how nintendo does things and it's why Nintendo titles are on average, higher quality.

@wiisley64: That would be great. Kid Icarus could be revived as well as Metroid was. Although I doubt it, I think they are making a whole new IP.

@puffy: Correct, Nintendo games are extremely high quality and they tend to take longer. But 200 people is a huge number of people working solely on 1 project. They should be making many projects in parallel, something that Retro hasn't done I believe, since they have always worked on 1 project at a time. That's why I believe 200 people might be a tad higher than it really is.

Yeah they quite possibly weeded out the crappy workers and have less than 200 now. It could also be that they're working on more than one title, one for 2010 and one for 2011 would be nice :P

In 2008, I would have disagreed with you. You may very well be right. Golden Sun. S&P, Galaxy and Other M are coming out in 2010. We may also get Zelda and the Vitality Sensor. Hopefully, 2010 will be a grand year.

retro was said to be working on a cancelled zelda game, not sure if thats true but would explain the delay. i agree with you trestres that they will be making a new IP, although personnally id love a new star fox made by retro.

by the way how many of the little october conference games havnt we got anything about yet?. am i right in thinking its just cosmic walker and dynamic slash? cos takt of magic is alreayd released in japan and weve already got stuff about sin & punishment 2, endless ocean 2, span smasher and line attack heroes

Dynamic Slash, Cosmic Walker, Kensax, Everyone’s the Star on the NHK Red-and-White Quiz Battle, and Start w/ 100 Conversations! English Conversation.

Those 5 we know nothing about. On top of that, we have no confirmed release date for S&P2, Line Attack Heros and Span Smasher, so I don't know if they are going to have new games at the October conference, since there are still 8 unreleased games from the past one.

Fantasy Life added, made by Brownie Brown and published by Level 5. Also Brownie Brown is making extra content for Layton called "London Life".

That of course according to 1up, I would like another source to clarify.
