Forums - Sales - Confirmed : MASSIVE Xbox 360 and Wii PRICE CUTS set to spur retail war

Magera said:
Well the 60Gb 360 and the Wii are currently the same price here in Australia.

Both are going for AUS$399... The 360 is looking rather tempting now. (still wont get one till end 09 though)

I honestly think this plan of keeping to the RRP in Australia is ruining the market share for Wii. Xbox has already done really well here and for Ninty to be so stubborn and not drop the price, it is simply surrendering the cheapest option argument in a market where it doesn't appear as though there is any particular "favorite brand".

It will be interesting, but probably insignificant anyway, to see what pre christmas 360 sales will do to any and all console purchases in the next 3 months.

We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Look, look... So the official price cut wasn't enough to sell?

This isnt an official price cut and will not have any affect, since when did gamers buy there things from sainsburys. they dont, they go to game or gamestation or whatever.

How is Microsoft making profit on this?

Ive just explained why the supermarket is marking them down. To attract video game sales when people are shopping for food.

Microsoft, i assume makes exactly the same profit.

The stores have already purchased the systems, so microsoft has already been paid.  The sales only cut into the retail stores profits.

Hmm, it's a great deal but I highly doubt we'll see MASSIVE sales from this, its over a short period and I doubt sainsburys stocks a lot of consoles. They'll sell out pretty damn quick im sure, but like I say, how much stock they have is most important.
