Forums - Sales - Confirmed : MASSIVE Xbox 360 and Wii PRICE CUTS set to spur retail war

A UK price war is about to begin, spurred on by retail chain, Sainsburys, who have this afternoon confirmed to HEXUS.gaming that there will be substantial price cuts on both its Xbox 360 and Wii consoles.

Speaking to the its customer service helpline, Sainsbury's confirmed that as from Friday 03rd October, running up until October 12th, the Xbox 360 Arcade version will be available for just £99.97(previously £129.97), with the 60GB model offered at just £139.97 (reduced from £169.97).

The company has no current deals on the Elite model.

Futhermore, the Wii will be reduced for the same period from £179.97 to £149.97!

You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal anywhere else. We guess you'll have to hurry up whilst stocks last

Ahh store level price cuts right?

It'd have to be. A formal price drop is never done without a lot of fanfare and "leaked" info about it.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

How much does PS2 usually cost in the UK? Isn't the SRP 99 pounds ? If so this puts PS2 and 360 practically on equal...

@ Apri , don't be suprised to see a XBOX 360 under the PS2.

wii sells for more than than 60GB 360, lol.

Well the 60Gb 360 and the Wii are currently the same price here in Australia.

Both are going for AUS$399... The 360 is looking rather tempting now. (still wont get one till end 09 though)

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

Odd thing, in the other thread about this, I thought RRP for PS2s was currently £94.99 I mean I would have bet on it. But then websites and places I found said RRP of £104.99....

I think it might have gone up. :?

Hmm, pie.

I dont think it will work but Sainsbury's being a supermarket has only recently gotten in to selling games.
I think this cheap console deal is a perfect way to get people interested in shopping for games while theyre getting food. But as i said dk if it will actually work.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
